Safadi: Occupation obstructs treatment of Gaza children and imposes bureaucratic restrictions on aid convoys

Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi, affirmed the Kingdom's commitment to continuing to provide medical care to patients and wounded individuals evacuated from the Gaza Strip in cooperation with the World Health Organization. Safadi explained during his participation in a security forum in the United States that Jordanian efforts focus primarily on children who need surgical interventions and emergency treatments not available within the besieged Strip due to the destruction of the healthcare system.

The minister indicated that His Majesty King Abdullah II officially pledged during his discussions with the US administration to provide treatment for more than 2,000 Palestinian children in Jordanian medical facilities. He stated that Jordan has already received a number of these children, but humanitarian efforts are constantly met with the intransigence of the Israeli authorities, who refuse to grant exit permits for many critical cases, directly threatening their lives.

In a related context, Safadi revealed Israeli violations related to preventing patients who have completed their treatment journey in Amman from returning to their homes in the Gaza Strip. He described these measures as unjustified obstacles faced by the Kingdom and international organizations, as recovered patients find themselves stranded away from their families despite the end of their need to stay in hospitals, which exacerbates their humanitarian and psychological suffering.

The Foreign Minister addressed the crisis of humanitarian aid flow, stressing that the main problem is not the availability of relief materials but rather the systematic obstruction policy practiced by the occupation at the crossings. Sources reported that the complex bureaucratic mechanisms imposed by Israel aim to slow down the arrival of vital supplies, as the number of trucks allowed to pass through the World Food Program does not exceed 30 trucks per week.

Safadi concluded his speech by criticizing the technical procedures imposed at the borders, where the occupation authorities force trucks to completely unload their cargo and reload it onto other vehicles in a process that consumes time and effort. He stressed that these practices often lead to the spoilage of sensitive food and medical materials before their arrival, thereby emptying international relief efforts of their meaning and tightening the noose on the residents of the Strip who live in a tragic reality.

The real challenge lies not in Jordan's ability to mobilize aid, but in the occupation's intransigence and prevention of its delivery to those in need within the Gaza Strip.
