France expressed its dismay on Friday after two French nationals working for the United Nations were seriously injured in the shelling of two buildings housing UN staff in the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the death of a UN Office for Project Services worker.
In a statement, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs stressed, "We condemn this unacceptable attack on a UN building, and we call for those responsible for this incident to be swiftly held accountable. The protection of humanitarian workers, who have paid a very high price in the Gaza Strip, must be guaranteed in all circumstances, in accordance with international humanitarian law."
France commended "the bravery and courage of humanitarian workers who assist civilians in the Gaza Strip and around the world, risking their lives."
