Saudi Arabia calls for ceasefire in Gaza Strip and support for UNRWA
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia called for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which has been subjected to Israeli genocide for more than 14 months, and also called for support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
This came in a speech by the Kingdom's UN representative, Abdulaziz Al-Wasil, yesterday evening, before the United Nations General Assembly in its emergency session in New York, according to the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Al-Wasil said, "The arbitrary use of the veto and the selectivity in applying international law contributed to the continuation of the war of genocide, the persistence of Israeli crimes in Gaza, and the expansion of the scope of aggression."
He stressed "the vital role of UNRWA, and condemned the Israeli legislation against it and the systematic targeting of it," calling for "effective participation in the high-level international conference to resolve the Palestinian issue, which will be held next June in New York City, under the joint presidency of the Kingdom and France."
The Saudi delegate stressed the "Kingdom's firm support for the Palestinian people and their rights," noting that "peace is the strategic choice based on the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions."
