Details of a secret call between Ghazi Hamad and Israeli activist Gershon Baskin
Sources revealed that a secret communication channel has been reopened between Israeli activist Gershon Baskin and Hamas official Ghazi Hamad.
This channel, which dates back to 2006, was essential in negotiating the release of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. Despite the interruption of communications during the last war due to statements made by Hamad that Baskin considered contradictory to his moderate personality, communication between the two parties has recently resumed.
In a new development, Hamad sent a text message and an audio recording to Baskin, expressing Hamas’s readiness to form a civilian government of technocrats to manage the Gaza Strip, with full powers to ensure security and manage the crossings. Baskin, in turn, contacted a Fatah official to ascertain Hamas’s position on this proposal.
It appears that the current proposal, which is being negotiated by Baskin and retired Israeli General Amiram Levin, includes a deal that includes the release of all hostages, whether civilians or soldiers, living or dead, within three weeks. It also includes an end to the war, a withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, a significant increase in humanitarian aid, and the release of Palestinian prisoners. In return, authority in Gaza would be transferred to a civilian government made up of independent figures to ensure effective management of the Strip.
