President Abbas: We are determined to have the State of Palestine assume its jurisdiction in Gaza, along with the West Bank, including Jerusalem.

President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, affirmed their determination for the State of Palestine to assume its jurisdiction in the Gaza Strip, along with the West Bank and East Jerusalem.


He said: "Our priority will remain stopping the aggression against our people, our land and our holy sites, the complete withdrawal of the occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, reconstruction and moving towards a political process that ends the occupation and achieves security, stability and peace for all in the region."


In another context, President Abbas said, "Spain's decision to recognize the State of Palestine is evidence of its commitment to the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and the justice of their cause, after the injustice and oppression they have been subjected to for 76 years."


During a joint press conference with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, following their meeting in the capital Madrid today, Thursday, President Abbas praised Spain's efforts in the European Union and international forums in supporting the implementation of the two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.


The President called on the international community to implement the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice in accordance with the General Assembly resolution calling for an end to the occupation and settlements and for the Palestinian people to achieve their freedom and independence in their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. His Excellency also called for holding an international peace conference, as confirmed by the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.


The President stressed that the State of Palestine will continue to work to obtain full membership in the United Nations, stressing that he is counting on Spain's support in this regard.


He thanked Spain for joining the complaint filed by South Africa before the International Court of Justice, in the case of genocide against our people in the Gaza Strip, and for the humanitarian aid it provided.
