Harris: It's time to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza

Kamala Harris, US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate, said that the time has come to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, and that President Joe Biden's administration is working around the clock to reach that agreement.

At an election rally in the eastern state of Pennsylvania, a number of activists opposed to the war on Gaza and demanding an end to American support for Israel interrupted a speech by Harris, who responded by saying that she respects the voices opposing the war.

She believed that the time had come to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and release the detainees. She stressed that the US administration was working around the clock to reach a ceasefire agreement.

Observers believe that the reluctance of pro-Palestine Americans, including Muslims and Arabs, to support Harris may affect her chances in the upcoming elections, even though this group usually votes for the Democrats and is unlikely to give their votes to the Republican candidate, Donald Trump.

Harris previously defended "Israel's right to defend itself" and the need for Palestinians to be able to "determine their own destiny," but she distanced herself from calls by members of the Democratic Party to suspend US military aid to Israel.

Israel, with American support, has been waging a war on Gaza since October 7, resulting in more than 41,000 martyrs and tens of thousands of wounded, in addition to widespread destruction and an unprecedented humanitarian disaster.
