US police disperse pro-Gaza demonstration in Chicago
US police forces intervened violently to disperse a two-day demonstration in support of the Gaza Strip in front of the Israeli consulate in Chicago, USA, which demanded that the US administration stop its support for Israel and an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
The American police intervened against the protesters, and clashes broke out between some of the protesters and the police forces, who used beatings and dragging, and arrested some of the protesters and 3 journalists. The scenes of police violence against the protesters were met with angry reactions on social media.
The demonstrations coincide with the start of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, last Monday evening, where the 2024 conference program highlights Israel's central role in US foreign policy under the administration of President Joe Biden.
With American support, Israel has been waging a continuous aggression on Gaza since October 7, 2023, which has left more than 133,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and deadly famine.
In contempt of the international community, Israel continues the war, ignoring the UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate end to it, and the International Court of Justice’s orders to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and to improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.
