American policy is not convincing even to its own people
The announcement of the arrival of a high-level American delegation to the region, in an attempt to push the negotiation process, does not add much to the failed American efforts that have been made since October 7 until now. This announcement is not met with joy, surprise, or even delicious anticipation, as American policy has always been characterized by weakness, duplicity, and bias, and at times this policy has provoked pity and compassion for the fabrications, stories, and justifications that American politicians have endured, which are truly ridiculous.
American policy since October 7 has been characterized by the following:
First, the US administration over the past ten months has not been able to impose any advice or suggestion on Israel at all. Neither has the number of Palestinian victims decreased, nor has aid increased, nor have the negotiations yielded results, nor has the shooting stopped, nor have the prisoners been released. Quite the opposite. This administration has appeared weak, besieged and hesitant, and has been unable to market itself as a sponsor or mediator, as much as it has portrayed itself to the world as a real partner, against the backdrop of military, financial, diplomatic and moral support for all of Israel’s actions.
Secondly, on the other hand, it has become clear that Israel is the one taking from the US administration everything it wants, pushing it to all the squares it has gone to, and forcing it to adopt all Israeli positions, no matter how terrible or inhumane they are. Moreover, Israel has been able to humiliate the current US administration, besiege it, and force it to back down from every step that Israel is not satisfied with. It has become clear during the past ten months that Israel is a daily issue on the US political agenda, and it has become clear that the huge lobby with multiple arms, platforms, and levels is capable of buying everything in the United States.
Third, the United States has conducted a very bad diplomacy in terms of its failed handling of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, as there was no strategic vision to resolve the conflict, and what was previously agreed upon was not built upon. The US administration did not activate the tools of pressure on Israel, and did not encourage Arab moderation except as a financial portfolio or part of a security alliance. This administration neglected the idea of resolving the conflict, and left it to Israel, which quickly turned into a right-wing that rejects the settlement from the ground up. The weakness of this administration, the absence of strategic solutions, and the absence of creative thinking pushed it to adopt a diplomacy based on bullying, on the one hand, and trying to buy calm by any means, by talking about alliances and quick solutions to long and explosive crises. The diplomacy followed by this administration is lazy, utilitarian, and short-term, and therefore relied on threats and displays of force, on the one hand, and on double standards, lies, fabrications, and cheap and obvious attempts to appease all parties.
Fourth, because Israel realizes that this administration is weak and confused, lacking charisma, creativity and initiative, on the one hand, and that the octopus lobby controls its decisions, on the other hand, it has become clear to all that Israel is dragging the American administration where it wants, without paying attention to its advice or warnings. Netanyahu scored many points in what he called confronting external and internal pressures, which made the man’s image improve in the eyes of his audience.
Fifth, now, and against the backdrop of this whole scene, can this administration succeed in what it has failed to do for ten months next week?! I do not think so, and for the following reasons as well: Israel has already made its decision to go to war, and believes that it has won and is able to impose its conditions, and the American administration cannot or does not want to put pressure on Netanyahu. The American administration is actually offering Israel temptations, not pressure. The American administration now, in the midst of these elections, certainly wants to record its achievements, and it is also certain that Netanyahu will think long and hard before presenting this administration with such an achievement.
Finally, anyone who believes that the United States of America is capable of providing a solution is mistaken. American diplomacy will remain as we have known it for decades, contradictory and honeyed words, and ostentatious and appeasement projects and proposals, while real policy is what its planes and myths produce. It is a policy that American politicians and theorists have accepted, as it is the guarantor and guarantor of the interests of the great empire that lies a lot and benefits the most.
