Lebanon files complaint to Security Council over Israeli cyber attacks
Today, Thursday, the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs filed a complaint before the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary-General through its permanent mission in New York, demanding the condemnation of the Israeli cyber attacks on Lebanon.
The Lebanese Foreign Ministry explained that these attacks pose a serious threat to civil aviation services in it, and threaten the security and safety of communication networks, devices, applications, and electronic data in vital Lebanese facilities and installations.
It also asked its permanent mission in Geneva to file a complaint with the headquarters of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to take the necessary technical measures to stop these attacks and help Lebanon ensure the smooth operation of telecommunications networks.
The Foreign Ministry indicated that it filed the complaints based on a report received from the Lebanese Ministry of Telecommunications, which revealed a source of interference in northern Israel that led to a decline in the accuracy of the Global Positioning System (GPS) in Lebanon, which affected transportation and communication services. It also revealed the presence of repeated alerts issued by the “Network Time Protocol Server”, showing the repeated loss of the GPS signal, and a decline in the quality of service and the quality of experience of mobile phone network operators.
She considered that these violations threaten communication networks and the safety of transportation, and are a flagrant violation of international laws and regulations, calling on the international community to pressure Israel to stop these destructive practices.
