Malaysian PM angry over Facebook deleting his post on Haniyeh assassination
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has accused Meta Platforms of cowardice after it removed his Facebook post about the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, in the latest spat between the Malaysian government and the company over banned content.
Ibrahim posted a video of a phone call with a Hamas leader to offer condolences over Haniyeh's death, but it was later deleted.
Ibrahim, who met Haniyeh in Qatar last May, said he has good relations with Hamas' political leadership, but has no ties at the military level.
“Once again, Meta is acting in a rude and insulting manner towards the Palestinian people’s struggle by removing videos and posts of condolence for the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh,” he wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday. “It is unreasonable to consider posts honoring a freedom fighter, who seeks to liberate his homeland from injustice and suffering, as dangerous.”
"Let this be a clear and unambiguous message to Meta: Stop this cowardice," he added.
