Victory for justice
The International Court of Justice, the highest judicial body in the world, issued its advisory opinion on the legal consequences of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.
The court called on Israel to end the occupation of the Palestinian territories as soon as possible, and considered that control over the occupied territories must be temporary and that its continuation amounts to annexation. As stated in the court’s decision, Israel is illegally present in the Palestinian territories and all countries must not recognize its occupation and cooperate. With the United Nations to enable the Palestinians to self-determination, noting that Israel’s legislation and measures reinforce segregation and racial discrimination against the Palestinians.
The court stated that Israel imposed its authority as an occupying force and failed in its duty to protect the Palestinians from settler violence in the West Bank, and called on it to stop new settlement projects and provide financial compensation to the Palestinians because of what resulted from colonialism and occupation.
This decision is considered a victory and a moment in history written in golden letters, because it recognized the inevitability of the Palestinian people’s self-determination and that the occupation is illegal and they must withdraw from the occupied territories, remove settlements, and cancel all illegal measures, especially the apartheid wall. It is also considered a major blow to Israel, its occupation and settlement. And its racist policies that crossed all red lines, the latest of which is the ongoing genocidal war in the Gaza Strip.
The international community must invest in this decision and increase pressure on Israel, besiege it legally to end its occupation of Palestinian land, and punish and boycott it for violating international laws and failing to implement and enforce the resolutions of international legitimacy that recognized Palestine and its right to self-determination.
All member states of the United Nations General Assembly must now fulfill their clear and explicit obligations to end the Israeli presence on Palestinian land.
This decision contributes to supporting the steadfastness of the Palestinian people, and gives them hope for a future free of colonialism, so that they can continue the journey of defending their absolute right to liberation and embodying their independence, sovereignty, and insistence on survival, existence, and decent living.
What is required of the Palestinians is to follow up on the implementation of this resolution, which championed justice and affirmed that the history and roots of this country are purely Palestinian, and that Israel has no connection to our land, neither from near nor from afar. We hope that we will see serious steps in the corridors of the United Nations to begin implementing the steps to liberate Palestine from the yoke of this. Occupation and brutal colonization.
