Hebrew Channel 12: Netanyahu's government is planning to impose radical punitive measures against the Palestinian Authority
The Hebrew Channel 12 said in a report that the expanded cabinet plans to take dramatic and more radical punitive measures against the Palestinian Authority.
The report stated that among the punitive measures are studying the possibility of deporting senior officials and their families (residing illegally in the West Bank), and restricting movement in the West Bank on those involved in issuing arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant.
Preventing these officials from traveling abroad, and arresting and prosecuting senior officials in the Palestinian Authority involved in incitement, supporting terrorism, and supporting the West Bank will also be studied.
The channel reported that Defense Minister Yoav Galant is the one who will examine these potential measures against the Palestinian Authority from an operational perspective.
The Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the Israeli Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, is planning to overthrow the Palestinian Authority despite the Israeli security system’s warning of the consequences of an explosion in that authority due to the series of measures that Smotrich plans to impose.
The newspaper explained that Smotrich presented, in the cabinet session, a series of measures to be implemented in the West Bank, including those directly targeting the Palestinian Authority. At the same time, Smotrich also intends to continue training some outposts. The new illegal settlements are among the same 63 outposts that he announced approximately two months ago that he would begin regularization procedures.
The Prime Minister's Office informed the Cabinet that it "discussed steps to strengthen settlements in the West Bank, in response to countries that announced unilateral recognition of the Palestinian state after the Hamas attack on October 7, as part of a series of anti-Palestinian Authority reactions after its actions against Israel in International forums.
It was noted that the Israeli Defense Minister, Yoav Galant, and the government's legal advisor, Gali Beharev Meara, requested that they be given an additional period to make their comments on some items of the proposals, while the Israeli Prime Minister issued his instructions to put all the proposals to a vote at the next cabinet meeting.
Smotrich intends to build thousands of housing units in the settlements, and he also plans to build for the Palestinians in Area C, but in a way that does not harm the settlers’ strategic path to control Area C.
Smotrich also intends to continue directing strikes at the Palestinian Authority and imposing sanctions against it after appealing to the International Court of Justice in The Hague, against the backdrop of previous plans to overthrow the Palestinian Authority, in contrast to the position of the Israeli security system, which warns of serious security consequences in the scenario of the collapse of the Palestinian Authority.
According to the newspaper, Smotrich also plans to deny VIP permits to Palestinian officials, through which they can move relatively freely, even beyond the Green Line, and he also intends to begin enforcing illegal construction laws in Area B.
