War on Gaza: deaths and wounded in the Israeli bombing of Rafah
A number of Palestinian civilians were martyred and injured, on Saturday, as a result of the Israeli occupation’s bombing of the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, the day after the International Court of Justice’s ruling in which Tel Aviv ordered an immediate halt to its military operations in the city.
With the approval of 13 of its members and the rejection of two members, the Court of Justice issued, on Friday, new temporary measures demanding that Israel “immediately stop its attack on Rafah,” “maintain the opening of the Rafah crossing to facilitate the entry of aid into Gaza,” and “submit a report to the court within a month on the steps.” taken” in this regard.
These new measures came from the court, which is the highest judicial body in the United Nations, in response to a request from South Africa as part of a comprehensive lawsuit filed by Pretoria at the end of December 2023, in which it accuses Tel Aviv of “committing genocide crimes” in the Gaza Strip.
In its decision issued on Friday, the Court of Justice said that the attack on Rafah was a “dangerous development that increases the suffering of its residents,” and that Israel “did not do enough to ensure the safety and security” of those forcibly displaced from this city.
According to local sources, an Israeli warplane targeted a gathering of civilians in the Shaboura camp in central Rafah. Which led to the death and injury of a number of them, which could not be immediately determined.
The sources added that other Israeli warplanes bombed several homes in central Rafah, and launched raids on agricultural lands in the same area.
It pointed out that the bombing led to the destruction of these homes and the formation of a thick black smoke cloud in the sky of the city, but it was not immediately possible to know whether or not this caused martyrs and wounded.
In another escalation of the attack on Rafah, Israeli artillery targeted an apartment in the Al-Fayrouz residential tower in the Tal Al-Sultan neighborhood, west of the city. As a result, 3 Palestinians were injured, but it was not immediately possible to determine how serious they were.
Meanwhile, Israeli quadcopter drones opened fire towards the Shaboura camp in central Rafah, wounding a citizen.
The sources added that the injured person was transferred to Kuwait Specialized Hospital in Rafah to receive treatment, without determining the severity of his injury.
