Reuters quoted an informed source as saying that the Irish government will announce recognition of the Palestinian state on Wednesday.
EU member states Ireland, Spain, Slovenia and Malta have indicated in recent weeks that they plan to recognize, considering a two-state solution necessary for lasting peace in the region.
The Irish government said yesterday evening, Tuesday, that the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister would speak to the media on Wednesday morning, but it did not specify the topic.
Agence France-Presse quoted the public broadcaster RTE in Ireland and the Irish Times newspaper as saying that the prevailing atmosphere indicates that the decision will be announced during the press conference.
