Al-Sisi: Positive developments are being witnessed in the comprehensive truce negotiations in Gaza
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said on Monday that there are “positive developments” in the negotiations between Israel and Hamas to reach a comprehensive truce in the Gaza Strip.
This came in a statement by the Egyptian President through his verified account on the “X” platform, after Hamas announced that Egypt and Qatar had been informed of the movement’s approval of the truce proposal with Israel.
Al-Sisi said: “I am closely following the positive developments taking place in the current negotiations to reach a comprehensive truce in the Gaza Strip.”
He called on "all parties to make more efforts to reach an agreement that would lead to an end to the humanitarian tragedy that the Palestinian people are suffering from, and to complete the replacement of hostages and prisoners (between the two parties)," without further details.
Earlier Monday, the private Cairo News Channel reported, quoting an unnamed high-ranking source, that “the terms of the agreement between Hamas and Israel include three stages and include an agreement to exchange prisoners and detainees and a humanitarian truce.”
The source added, "Egyptian efforts are continuing to stop the escalation and ensure the success of the truce agreement between the two parties."
He pointed out that "the Egyptian security delegation (which has been leading the negotiations for days) confirms that it has received positive responses from both parties (Hamas and Israel) and is intensifying its contacts to calm the situation."
This came after the Hamas movement said in a statement that the head of its political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, informed Qatar and Egypt of the movement’s approval of the two mediating countries’ proposal regarding a ceasefire agreement with Israel in the Gaza Strip.
With the mediation of Egypt and Qatar and the participation of the United States, Israel and Hamas have been conducting indirect negotiations for months, which faltered in previous stages, to reach a prisoner exchange deal and a ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip.
