Sanders to Netanyahu: Stop killing innocent people!

Vermont Senator and former US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders sent a message to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in which he said: “Stop killing innocent people!”

Sanders sent his frank message in an interview with msnbc, a day after seven aid workers were killed in an Israeli raid in Gaza, saying: “Stop killing innocent people... Two-thirds of the people killed, more than 32,000 people killed (in Gaza) were from "Women and children. This is unforgivable."

He stressed, "What is happening in Gaza now is one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the history of the modern world. We are talking about the possibility that hundreds of thousands of children and others will die from hunger," adding: "It is true that Hamas is the one that started this war. But it is also true that What Israel is doing at the present time is not only fighting Hamas, but waging a war against the entire Palestinian people.”

Sanders pointed out, "We are talking about 70% of the housing units in Gaza that were destroyed or damaged. We are talking about 1.8 million people who were displaced and expelled from their homes. We are talking about people who today do not have food, water, medical supplies, or fuel," stressing that it is "a terrible thing." "It is unforgivable. It must end now. The United States cannot continue to be complicit in the horror that is happening now."

He considered that "Israel has the right to pursue Hamas, which started this war. But Israel does not have the right to create a situation in which they prevent humanitarian aid from entering Gaza. The result is that children are starving to death," asking: "Do we want to be partners in that?" "The answer, in my view, is that most Americans...don't want to be complicit."

Regarding whether he was concerned about the impact that the protests might have on President Joe Biden’s chances for re-election, Sanders said: “Yes, whatever the case, it will be a difficult election and I will do everything I can, despite my disagreement with the president about what is happening in Gaza, to make sure "If Donald Trump is not elected president of the United States...it will be a terrible disaster for our country. The Democratic base wants to stop funding Netanyahu's war machine."
