Biden: Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries are ready to recognize Israel for the sake of peace
US President Joe Biden stressed the necessity of having a plan to achieve peace in the Middle East after the war that Israel is waging in Gaza, adding: “There must be a path that leads to a two-state solution.”
This came in statements he made away from the cameras during a ceremony attended by former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, yesterday, Thursday, according to American media. He indicated that Biden spoke about the readiness of Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries to recognize Israel in order to achieve peace, provided that there is a plan for after the Gaza war.
Biden did not provide further details in this regard, but he said: “I was working with the Saudis and other Arab countries, including Egypt, Jordan, and Qatar, and there is preparation for that, and I believe it is something that can be achieved,” adding: “More food, medicine, and supplies must be delivered to the Palestinians.”
Biden said: “Israel’s existence is at stake. We must not forget that,” but we call on it to increase its efforts to protect Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
Saudi Arabia repeatedly confirms that its position on Israel is linked to a complete solution to the Palestinian issue and the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the borders before June 5, 1967.
