For the first time.. The European Parliament calls for a ceasefire in Gaza

The European Parliament called for the first time for an “immediate and permanent ceasefire” in Gaza, where Israel continues its attacks.

The 2023 report was approved in the General Assembly of the European Parliament on “The situation of human rights and democracy in the world and the European Union’s policy towards it” by a majority of 265 votes to 253 against, with 10 abstentions.

The phrase “call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza” was added to Article 62 of the report at the request of members of the left-wing group in the European Parliament.

“The European Union, its Member States and the international community are called, in particular, for an urgent and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, to ensure uninterrupted access to food and water for all,” the new revised and approved report said.

Thus, the European Parliament called for the first time for a ceasefire in Gaza.

In the resolution adopted on January 18, the “permanent ceasefire” was conditional on the release of all prisoners and the liquidation of Hamas.

At the General Assembly session on the report in question, on Tuesday, many representatives criticized the failure to include Gaza in the report, and accused the European Union of leaving Israel unpunished despite the crimes it committed.
