Algeria - (AFP) - According to the Civil Protection, on Wednesday, forest fires struck many cities in northern Algeria, and injured people in the border city of Souk Harras with Tunisia.

And the Civil Protection confirmed that 26 fires continued to break out in eight states, explaining that four of them were in the Haras market, where four people suffered burns of varying degrees, and 38 others were facing breathing difficulties.

Helicopters intervened in three states, including Souk Haras.

Local television broadcast pictures of the fires.

Since the beginning of summer, many fires have broken out in Algeria and four people have been killed so far.

Forests in Algeria extend over an area of 4.1 million hectares.

The north of the country witnesses forest fires every year, and this phenomenon is greatly increasing due to climate changes.

The summer of 2021 was the most recorded number of deaths. At least ninety people were killed in forest fires that hit the north of the country and destroyed more than 100,000 hectares of forests.
