British Foreign Secretary David Lammy confirmed that the famine in Gaza is man-made, referring to the systematic and deliberate starvation policy imposed by the Israeli occupation on the Palestinians, expressing his deep anger at the occupation government's refusal to allow aid to enter.
In a speech during a session in the British Parliament, Lammy pointed to the need for a comprehensive humanitarian response to prevent further death in the besieged Gaza Strip, adding that "this is a man-made famine in the 21st century, and the Israeli government's refusal to allow aid to enter adequately angers me."
Lammy warned of the worsening famine in Gaza if necessary measures are not taken, noting that more than 300 people, including 119 children, have died from malnutrition since July 1, announcing that his country will provide an additional £15 million ($20 million) in aid and medical care to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
He pointed out that he is working to bring more injured children and those suffering from serious illnesses from Gaza to Britain for treatment, emphasizing that if no progress is made regarding a ceasefire in Gaza, Britain will take steps to recognize the State of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly this September.
Since March 2, Israel has closed all crossings leading to Gaza, preventing any humanitarian aid, plunging the region into famine despite relief trucks piling up at its borders.
On August 22, the United Nations' "Global Initiative for the Integrated Phase Classification of Food Security" announced "the occurrence of famine in Gaza City (North)" and predicted that "it will extend to Deir al-Balah (Central) and Khan Younis (South) by the end of this September."
With American support, Israel has been committing genocide since October 7, 2023, resulting in 63,557 martyrs and 160,660 injured Palestinians, most of whom are children and women, over 9,000 missing, hundreds of thousands displaced, and a famine that has killed 348 Palestinians, including 127 children.
This is a man-made famine in the 21st century, and the Israeli government's refusal to allow aid to enter adequately angers me.
