Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz said in a joint statement on Friday that they reject what they described as a "lie" published by the Haaretz newspaper about Israeli soldiers opening fire on residents at aid centers in the Gaza Strip.
The statement described the reports in Haaretz as "false and heinous," and said they aimed to tarnish the reputation of the Israeli army, which it considered one of the "most moral armies in the world."
Haaretz reported that Israeli soldiers deliberately opened fire on unarmed Palestinians near aid centers run by the so-called Gaza Humanitarian Organization, on instructions from their commanders.
