The FBI raid of Trump's home hurts American voters' faith in the office

WASHINGTON - (Xinhua) -- The FBI's raid last week of former US President Donald Trump 's home in Florida damaged US voters' confidence in the office, according to a recent poll by US polling firm Rasmussen Reports.

Forty-four percent of American voters say the FBI raid of Trump's home has lowered their trust in the office, according to a new national telephone and Internet poll released Thursday.

The report, quoting Roger Stone, Trump's advisor, stated that there is "a group of politicized thugs at the head of the FBI and the bureau uses them as the personal Gestapo" of the current administration.
According to the poll, 53 percent of voters now agree with Stone's statement.

From Bangladesh to Indonesia... Tragic crossing of Rohingya refugees

LUWING (Indonesia) (AFP) - At a detention center on the coast of Indonesia , some 200 starving and dehydrated Rohingya refugees are trying to recover Tuesday after a harrowing crossing that claimed the lives of 20 people with them.

It was their fourth boat to reach Indonesia in two months, but the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) fears another boat with about 180 people on board may have sank in the Indian Ocean.

The Rohingya refugees, including dozens of women and children, arrived on Monday evening at a beach in the province of Aceh in western Indonesia on a wooden boat about ten meters long. They spent the night on the ground in a mosque.

The boat was carrying 174 members of this persecuted minority in Burma, according to the latest local authorities census.

It was difficult for some to walk, while many were so dehydrated that they required treatment with serum after spending several weeks at sea in the Bay of Bengal.

Medical staff from the International Organization for Migration "treat serious cases of dehydration and malnutrition," Louis Hoffmann, the organization's head of mission in Indonesia, told AFP.

Several refugees, whose testimonies were obtained by AFP, recounted that they spent more than a month at sea after leaving the camps in Bangladesh, which are home to about a million Rohingya.

"Some people died in the boat, about 26 people. We threw their bodies into the sea," said Rasit, who looked tired and spoke some of the local dialect.

"When we left Bangladesh, we had water for seven days and food for ten," Omar Farooq, a 14-year-old boy who speaks English, said. But after a week the boat's engine broke down and the boat ran aground for more than a month.

"Malaysia did not allow us to dock," Omar, who is traveling without his family, added.

Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya, a persecuted minority in Burma whose members are mostly Muslims, fled the atrocities committed against them by the Burmese army, seeking refuge in neighboring Bangladesh in 2017. The military coup in 2021 in Burma ended the hopes of return for those stateless people who live in large refugee camps. .

Every year thousands of them risk their lives on long and dangerous sea voyages on rickety boats, in search of a better life in Malaysia or Indonesia.

Muhammad Tahir, another refugee who speaks a local dialect, said, "Our life is difficult in Bangladesh. We are not allowed to go out and our children are not allowed to be educated."

In December, the United Nations issued an urgent appeal to the countries of the region to help several refugee boats, without food or water, that run aground in the Indian Ocean.

In a tweet, Anne Maiman, UNHCR Representative in Jakarta, extended her “sincere thanks to Indonesia,” praising “one of the rare countries in the region that respects basic humanitarian principles” on refugees.

Over the past two months, some 472 refugees have arrived in Aceh, according to UNHCR statistics.

Refugees who arrived Sunday on another boat carrying 57 passengers told AFP that they had received assistance from the Indonesian and Indian navies.

Refugee Zahid Hussain (18 years old) said, "We sailed for three days, then the engine broke down, and we had nothing left to eat. After 11 days, fishermen provided us with food and we met members of the Indian Navy who helped us reach Indonesian waters."

And he added, "When we reached Indonesian waters, I saw the hills and knew that we would hold on."

The young man, who lost at least five of his voyage companions, confirmed that "God helped us find the Indonesian Navy."

But the United Nations fears that other boats are still adrift at sea.

And if the boat carrying about 180 people is confirmed to have sunk, the year 2022 will be one of the worst years for the Rohingya, with a death toll of more than 400 people lost at sea, according to the UNHCR.

European agreement to reduce gas consumption by 15 percent

BRUSSELS - (Xinhua) -- European Union member states have reached a political consensus on voluntarily cutting gas consumption by 15 percent from the 2017-2021 average, officials announced Tuesday.

Josef Sekela, the Czech Minister of Industry and Trade, chaired an extraordinary meeting of the EU Council on energy on Tuesday, as the EU prepares for a possible disruption in gas supplies during the winter.

"The member states agreed to reduce their demand for gas by 15 percent compared to their average consumption in the past five years, between August 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023, with measures of their choice," the European Council said in a statement.

"Possible measures include reducing gas consumption in the electricity sector, measures to encourage switching to fuels in industry, national awareness campaigns, targeted pledges to reduce heating and cooling, and market-based measures such as auctions between companies," he added.

However, there are many exemptions from the 15 percent target, as island nations such as Malta, Cyprus and Ireland are exempted because they are not connected to the EU gas grid.

Other exemptions include member states that have already exceeded the gas storage mobilization target, those whose industries rely heavily on gas as feedstock, and those whose gas consumption increased by at least eight percent in the past year compared to the average of the past five years.

The Union Alert can be activated either by the European Commission if it observes a "substantial risk of severe gas shortages or exceptionally high demand", or "if five or more Member States declare a national alert and request the Commission to do so". .

Iran rejects allegations of "espionage" related to a satellite launched by Russia

Tehran - (AFP) - Iran has rejected US suggestions that the satellite , launched by Russia for Tehran on Tuesday, will be used for "espionage" purposes, saying they are just "childish" comments.

Moscow launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on board a "Soyuz 2.1-B" rocket, the "Khayyam" remote-sensing satellite belonging to Tehran.

The move was criticized by the United States, which, according to a spokesman for its State Department, said that the growing cooperation between Russia and Iran should be seen as a "deep threat."

"We are aware of reports that Russia launched a satellite with great spying capabilities on behalf of Iran," he added.

In statements to reporters Wednesday in Tehran, the head of the Iranian Space Organization, Hassan Salariyeh, said, "Sometimes, some statements are made to stir up tensions. Saying that we want to spy through the Khayam satellite ... is childish."

He stressed that "the Khayyam satellite was completely designed to meet the country's needs in crisis management... natural resources, mines, agriculture and others."

The Washington Post had previously quoted Western intelligence officials as saying that Russia would initially use this satellite for months for military purposes related to its invasion of Ukraine, before handing it over to Tehran.

However, the Iranian Space Organization stressed in a statement Sunday that the satellite and the commands related to its operation and control "will be issued from the first day and immediately after launch by Iranian experts at the space bases of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology."

And she stressed that "sending commands and receiving information from this satellite will be done according to encrypted algorithms... and there is no possibility for a third country to access this information, and some rumors that have spread about the use of images of this satellite for military purposes by other countries are incorrect."

The moon, which is likely to bear this name in relation to the Persian scientist and poet Omar Khayyam, who lived between the eleventh and twelfth centuries, aims to "monitor the country's borders" and improve productivity in the field of agriculture, control water resources and manage natural risks, according to the Iranian agency.

Iran asserts that its space program is exclusively for civil and defense purposes, and does not violate any international agreements, including the agreement with the six major powers regarding its nuclear program that was concluded in 2015, and the United States withdrew from it in 2018.

Iranian space activities are often condemned by Western countries, due to fears that Tehran will resort to enhancing its expertise in the field of ballistic missiles by launching satellites into space.

Iran has previously launched satellites directly from its territory, the last of which was in March 2022 with the "Noor 2" military satellite belonging to the Revolutionary Guards.

This was the second time the Guard announced its success in launching a military satellite, after it reported on April 22, 2020 that Noor 1 had been put into orbit, stressing that it was the first Iranian satellite of this kind.

American writers and journalists honor Salman Rushdie in New York

New York (AFP) - Some of the great figures of American literature, such as Paul Auster and Guy Tallis, gathered Friday to organize a reading of excerpts from Salman Rushdie's works in support of the British writer who was seriously injured last week in a knife attack.

The gathering, in which about ten well-known writers participated, some of whom were close to Rushdie, took place on the steps of the New York Public Library in the Manhattan neighborhood, and the writer was invited to follow the event via the Internet from his hospital room.

Rushdie, author of The Satanic Verses, was preparing to give a talk Aug. 12 in upstate New York when a man stormed the stage and stabbed him multiple times in the neck and stomach.

The writer was taken by helicopter to a hospital, where he was connected to a ventilator for some time before his condition improved.

Writer and journalist Guy Tallis read an excerpt from Rushdie's novel "The Golden House," while Irish writer Colum McCann read an excerpt from the article "Out of Kansas," published by Rushdie in The New Yorker in 1992. McCann said that the writer is of Indian origin. He has always shown himself to be up to the occasion," adding, "I think he'll have some deep words to say" after his recovery.

The American writer A. Mother. Homes, some of whose books, such as the novel “The End of Alice,” sparked debates, reading excerpts from a text by Rushdie entitled “On Censorship” extracted from a lecture he gave in 2012.

"No writer really wants to talk about censorship," the clip states. "Writers want to talk about creativity, and censorship is anti-creativity."

Salman Rushdie was stabbed more than 33 years after the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, issued a fatwa on February 14, 1989, following the publication of his novel "The Satanic Verses", which sparked outrage in the Islamic world.

Rushdi was forced to hide under security guard and move from hiding place to hiding place.

British novelist and journalist Harry Kunzru read the beginning of the novel that radically and permanently changed Rushdie's life.

"Salman once wrote that the writer's role is to describe the unspeakable, to expose the hypocrites, take a side, launch discussions, leave a mark on the world and prevent it from sinking into slumber... That is why we are here," he said.

The perpetrator of the attack, Hadi Matar, a 24-year-old American of Lebanese descent, pleaded not guilty to the charge of "attempted murder and assault" against him, when he appeared Thursday for the first time before a court since he was charged.

"Even a knife in Salman Rushdie's throat cannot silence his voice," said Susan Nossel, head of the American branch of the PEN Association for the Defense of Writers in the World, which organized the gathering.

Before reciting a text in turn, British writer Tina Brown went directly to Salman Rushdie, saying, "You have never asked to play the role of a hero."

And she continued, "All you wanted was to devote yourself to writing. But your intransigence in defending freedom of expression made you a hero, and you paid a terrible price."

Writer and historian Amanda Foreman said Friday's mobilization "proves that people are not afraid."

"We are all ready to stand up for what we believe in," she told AFP.

Salman Rushdie was born on June 19, 1947 in Bombay, India, into a family of intellectual non-practicing Muslims, a wealthy, progressive, and educated family.

Despite the danger, he has recently appeared increasingly in public without apparent security protection, while continuing to defend in his books freedom of satire and disrespect for religions.

In an interview he gave to the German magazine Stern a few days before the attack, he was "optimistic", saying, "Since I moved to the United States, I no longer have a problem... My life has returned to normal again."

Updated || An Israeli soldier died of his wounds in a shooting attack near Nablus

Translation by "Jerusalem" dot com - Today, Tuesday, an Israeli soldier died of his wounds, in a shooting attack near the Shavei Shomron settlement near Nablus .

According to the military correspondent of Yedioth Ahronoth, the injured person's condition later deteriorated and became described as serious, indicating that he had been shot in the hand.

While the Israeli Army Radio reported that a Palestinian arrived in a speeding vehicle and opened fire at the force while guarding a group of settlers, wounding the soldier in the shoulder, he was taken to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba, indicating that large forces are searching for the outlet.

According to identical Israeli sources, a group of settlers was demonstrating near the Homesh outpost, and when they left the Shavei Shomron settlement, a force protecting them came under fire.

This comes a time after the "Lions' Den" groups, which are active in Nablus, announced the launch of the "Days of Wrath" series in response to the Israeli aggression in Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Ukraine wants to exclude Russia from the UN Security Council

Kiev ( Ukraine ) - (AFP) - Ukraine will demand Monday that Russia be expelled from the UN Security Council , in the wake of new statements by President Vladimir Putin accusing the West of pursuing a "divide and rule" policy.

"Tomorrow (Monday) we will announce our position officially. We have a very simple question: Does Russia have the right to remain a permanent member of the UN Security Council and to be a (member) of the United Nations?" Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on a Christmas TV programme.

"We have a convincing and logical answer: No, you don't have that right," he added.

Kuleba noted that the issue of Russia occupying a permanent seat in the UN Security Council - like the United States, Britain, France and China - is mainly discussed in diplomatic circles.

And after making it clear that this issue has not yet been raised in press conferences or public statements by leaders of states and governments, Kuleba said that "at a lower level, the question is already being raised about what Russia should become in order not to pose a threat to peace and security."

The UN Security Council, in its composition, reflects the balance of power after World War II. It includes 15 member states tasked with dealing with global crises, in particular by imposing sanctions, authorizing military action and agreeing to changes in the United Nations Charter.

However, each of the five permanent members of the Council has veto power, which allows it to prevent the adoption of any resolution. Several countries have long called for Security Council reform, with some criticizing the poor representation of African and Latin American countries in permanent seats.

On the other hand, the Russian Air Defense Forces shot down on Sunday night a Ukrainian drone as it approached an air base in southern Russia, killing three people when its wreckage fell, Russian news agencies reported.

"On December 26, at around 01:35 Moscow time (22:35 GMT Sunday), a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle was shot down at a low altitude as it approached the Engels military airfield in the Saratov region," TASS news agency said, quoting the Russian Defense Ministry. ".

She added that "as a result of the fall of the wreckage of the plane, three Russian servicemen and technicians who were at the airport were fatally wounded."

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday accused the West of seeking to "divide" Russia, stressing in an interview with state television that the attack on Ukraine aims to "unite the Russian people."

"Everything is based on the policy of our geopolitical opponents, who aim to divide Russia, historical Russia," Putin said. "Divide and conquer: always tried to do it, they are trying to do it now, but our goal is completely different: to unite the Russian people," he added.

The Russian president has justified military intervention in Ukraine on several occasions, pointing to the need to bring together Ukrainians and Russians, who for him constitute only one people.

He again condemned the position of Kiev and its Western allies, who "refuse (to hold) talks," stressing that he is "ready to negotiate with all participants in this process (to find) an acceptable solution" to the conflict.

Two weeks before their traditional celebrations, Orthodox Ukrainians celebrated Christmas Sunday in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, alongside Catholics.

"The war has brought us a lot of grief," Olga Stanko told AFP at a church in the city centre. "We cannot remain under Russian influence," she added.

Olena Zakharova Gorianska expressed her happiness at celebrating Christmas on December 25 for the first time, describing it as an obvious choice after suffering from the Russian occupation of the town of Gostomil, north of Kiev.

"I don't want anything to connect me with the occupiers, with the enemy," she said.

Ukraine, a country whose majority is Orthodox, is divided between a church affiliated with the Moscow Patriarchate - which announced that it had cut ties with Russia at the end of May due to the Russian attack - and a Russian church independent of Russian tutelage.

The number of martyrs since the beginning of the new year portends the dangerous policy of escalating field executions

Bethlehem - "Jerusalem" dot com - Najeeb Farraj - announcing the death of the two martyrs, Habib Muhammad Kamil (25 years old) and Abd al-Hadi Fakhri Nazzal (18 years old), on Thursday evening, by the bullets of the Israeli occupation forces, during the process of storming the town of Qabatiya in Jenin district. Martyrs since the beginning of the new year to nine, including 5 in the last 24 hours.

The next is more dangerous

In this regard, lawyer Farid al-Atrash, director of the Independent Commission for Human Rights in the southern West Bank, said that the large number of martyrs within several days of the new year indicates that the coming is more dangerous in terms of the Israeli occupation’s crimes against our Palestinian people under the new fascist right-wing government, although Our people have never differentiated between one government and another.

He pointed out that the outgoing government of Yair Lapid used Palestinian blood as an electoral card, and achieved what it wanted after his party achieved great results in the recent elections.

firing orders

Al-Atrash said in an interview with Al-Quds.com that the daily raids that take place during both day and night hours are a clear escalation process to target the largest number of citizens, whether through arrests or daily executions , pointing to the existence of a clear Israeli decision. Continuing the field execution policy against citizens, the latest of which was the execution of the martyr Samir Aslan in Qalandia camp, during his attempt to prevent the arrest of his son Ramzi.

He pointed out that human rights field research in many cases showed that the occupation soldiers and settlers deliberately executed citizens, although they could have arrested many of them or shot them in the lower area without executing them directly.

The hand is on the trigger

He said very briefly, "The Zionist hand is on the trigger, a policy that has deepened recently and at the time of Lapid's government, which is falsely called the government of change, when Lapid and other ministers encouraged settlers to acquire weapons under the pretext of self-defense, and we saw Ben Gvir and before he became A minister who drew his gun more than once against Palestinian citizens.

He stressed that what is coming is much more dangerous, and that the new year will be bloody, and perhaps more than the one that preceded it, in light of the policy of extremism and hatred against our Palestinian people, who face the policy of killing alone amid silence from the world.

Two Iraqi soldiers killed in an attack attributed to "ISIS"

Kirkuk ( Iraq ) - (AFP) - Two Iraqi soldiers were killed and three others were wounded in an explosive device attack targeting their vehicles in the Kirkuk governorate in northern Iraq, two security sources told AFP on Thursday, holding the responsibility for this to the "Islamic State" organization.

The attack, which has not been claimed by any party yet, took place on Wednesday night in the village of Al-Sahel in the Dibis district of Kirkuk.

A security source in the province, who preferred not to be identified, said that "elements" of ISIS "detonated two explosive devices targeting two military Hummers," before opening fire with "machine guns."
He added that two soldiers were killed in the attack and three others were wounded.

Another security source confirmed the attack and the outcome.

The attack took place in an area between Kirkuk, which is administered by the federal government, and Erbil, the capital of the autonomous Kurdistan region, and is among the areas disputed by the two parties. The organization launches attacks in those areas from time to time, while the authorities of the two regions are trying to enhance cooperation between their forces in order to avoid any security vacuum that the jihadists might exploit.

This attack comes after an ambush claimed by the "Islamic State" organization, which resulted in the death of nine members of the Iraqi Federal Police in Kirkuk on Sunday.

In 2014, ISIS took control of large areas in Iraq and neighboring Syria, but was defeated in the two countries in 2017 and 2019, respectively.

And while Iraq declared "victory" over ISIS in 2017, its elements are still active in rural and remote areas of the country.

The Iraqi security forces continuously launch operations against these cells, and from time to time announce the killing of dozens of jihadists with air strikes or ground raids.

The border between Syria and Iraq continues to "constitute a major area of vulnerability" exploited by the organization, which has "between 6,000 and 10,000 fighters spread across the two countries, most of whom are concentrated in rural areas, most of whom are estimated to be Syrian and Iraqi nationals," according to a Security Council report. International published in July 2022.

During a meeting of the country's security leaders on Wednesday, Prime Minister Mohamed Shiaa al-Sudani directed "military leaders to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the plans drawn up and to change military tactics in areas witnessing activities of terrorist remnants," according to a statement issued by his office.

He said in a speech on Monday night that there are "mistakes made by the security services. There is a clear defect that led to this incident, and there must be accountability."

The Iraqi Parliament sets Thursday a session to elect the President of the Republic

Baghdad - (AFP) - Iraq 's parliament scheduled, on Thursday, October 13, a session to elect the president of the republic, as stated in a statement issued by the office of the speaker of parliament on Tuesday, a year after Political paralysis followed early parliamentary elections.

The statement stated that "Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi announces a session on Thursday, corresponding to October 13," and that the agenda will be "from one paragraph, which is the election of the President of the Republic."

The sudden announcement comes amid a severe political crisis in the country.

Iraq held early legislative elections on October 10, 2021, under the pressure of the unprecedented popular protests that took place in the fall of 2019, rejecting the corruption of the political class and the deterioration of the infrastructure.

But a year later, the parties to the crisis failed to reach an agreement on electing a new president and naming a new prime minister.

The position of the President of the Republic belongs to the Kurdish minority, but differences have persisted for months between the two major Kurdish parties, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, according to observers.

The position usually belongs to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, but the KDP is seeking to take it. It seems that the most likely candidates are the current President of the Republic and the candidate of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Barham Salih, and Reber Ahmed, Minister of Interior in the Kurdistan Regional Government, for the Kurdistan Democratic Party.

The election of the president is supposed to be a first step towards appointing a prime minister to be chosen by the largest bloc in Parliament.
Until now, differences still exist between the two Shiite political poles, namely the coordination framework, and the Sadrist movement.

For his part, Muqtada al-Sadr calls for the dissolution of Parliament and the holding of early legislative elections, while the Coordination Framework, which includes pro-Iranian factions, calls for the formation of a new government before going to elections.

The tension reached its climax on August 29, when armed confrontations broke out between supporters of Muqtada al-Sadr on the one hand, and forces from the army and the popular crowd on the other, during which more than 30 members of the Sadrist movement were killed.

The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) said in a statement on Monday that "all actors must engage in dialogue without preconditions." It called on the country's politicians to "collectively agree on the main results by making concessions that reaffirm their declared goal of meeting the needs of the Iraqi people and forming a government with full and effective powers."

Ronaldo stresses that United's owners "don't care" about the club's successes

(AFP) - Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo considered that the American Glazers family, which owns Manchester United, "does not care" about the club's success on the field and the achievement of championships, adding that the administration did not believe him when it came to the health of his family.
The role of the “Don”, winner of the Golden Ball five times, has declined in the “Red Devils” squad since Dutch coach Erik Ten Hag, who came from Ajax Amsterdam, took over last May and was punished this season for refusing to enter as a substitute in a match.
But the Portuguese star has returned to the team in recent weeks and took the armband in a 3-1 defeat by Aston Villa.
He missed the team during Sunday's 2-1 win over Fulham in the last match before a six-week break for the World Cup in Qatar, which starts on Sunday.
In an exciting interview with Talk TV on Sunday, Ronaldo, who made his name at Old Trafford in his early years between 2003 and 2009, said he felt "betrayed" by United and that he believed that prominent figures in the club were trying to overthrow him and that "I have no respect for him." (The coach) because he doesn't show me any respect."
In another part of the interview broadcast on Monday, he continued to wage war on the club he returned to last year. "The Glazers don't care about the club...professional sport. You know, Manchester is a marketing club. They'll get money from marketing - they don't really care about sport in my opinion."
"The fans are always right. I think the fans should know the truth, they should know that the players want the best for the club. I want the best for the club. That's why I came to Manchester United."
Ronaldo won three titles in the English Premier League and the Champions League in 2008, in addition to his first Golden Ball award that year, but the club has not won any title since 2017.
The 37-year-old striker said there were "things within the club" that prevented United from competing with rivals Manchester City and Liverpool and it would be difficult for them to return to the top in the next few years.
His former colleagues, Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville, did not escape his words after criticizing his performance.
He said: "People can have their own opinions but they don't really know what's going on. For example, during training and at Carrington [training centre] or even my life...they have to listen to my point of view too. Because it's easy to criticize, but if You don't know the whole story, it's easy to talk."
"They are not my friends," he added.
In his interview, the former Real Madrid player explained why he did not go on United's pre-season tour to Australia in July.
He revealed that his Spanish partner, Georgina Rodriguez, and their daughter, Bella Esmeralda, were taken to the hospital due to a “major problem,” just months after the death of their newborn son, but he said that the club’s management did not believe him.
And the former Juventus player continued, "I will never put the health of my family before football. Never. Now, 10 years ago, or in the future, and this is something that really hurts me because they question my words."
And the club issued a statement on Monday, saying, "Manchester United has followed the media coverage regarding an interview conducted by Cristiano Ronaldo. The club will consider a response after confirming the full facts," amid speculation that his career in the club is nearing its end and he will leave early next year in the winter transfer market.
The World Cup kicks off on Sunday, and Portugal is in Group H, along with Uruguay, Ghana and South Korea.

Tunisia: Referring a number of files to the judiciary against exempted judges

TUNIS - (Xinhua) - The Tunisian Ministry of Justice confirmed today (Saturday) the Tunisian judiciary's commitment to follow up more than 100 files in criminal cases attributed to a number of judges, including the 57 judges whom President Kais Saied had decided to relieve from their duties on the second of last June. .

The Ministry of Justice said, in a statement distributed this evening, that the competent public prosecution undertook to follow up 109 files for a number of judges, and authorized the referral of a number of them to the judicial poles (complexes) specialized in terrorist crimes and financial corruption.

She added, "Penal consequences have been raised against the exempted judges (57 judges), pursuant to the provisions of Decree No. 35 of 2022," noting that "investigative research has been opened for this purpose for several crimes such as financial corruption, bribery, money laundering, and economic and customs crimes, in addition to Crimes of a terrorist nature, such as covering up a terrorist organization and obstructing and deviating from procedures.

And she added that the crimes attributed to these judges also include "concealing evidence of the crime, negligence in the means of criminal proof, and other crimes represented in fraud, exploitation of job characteristics, harm to management, crimes of sexual harassment, and violation of laws regulating weapons and ammunition."

She indicated that she had "informed the Temporary Supreme Council of Judicial Judiciary of the list of exempted judges subject to criminal consequences, in addition to assigning the General Inspection since the first of last June the task of inventorying the offices of the exempted judges in order to determine responsibilities, which necessitated taking legal measures in this regard."

And it considered in its statement that this confirmation comes "to deny what is being circulated on some social media by parties seeking to disrupt the course of accountability and claiming that there are no files."

On the ninth of August, the Tunisian Administrative Court issued rulings suspending the implementation of most of the exemption decisions that included judges, which came in Presidential Order No. 516 issued by President Kais Saied on the second of last June.

What is required from the Palestinians in the current and subsequent stage?

The Tunisian president downplays the importance of boycotting the elections and responds sharply to his critics

Tunisia - (AFP) - Tunisian President Kais Saied, on Wednesday, underestimated the importance of the massive boycott of the legislative elections that Tunisia recently witnessed, sharply addressing his critics who denounce the decline in freedoms in the country since he seized power.

Tunisia's electoral authorities officially announced that turnout in the December 17 legislative elections was limited to 11.2 percent, slightly higher than the initial 8.8 percent announced at closing.

This participation rate is the lowest ever since the revolution that overthrew the dictatorship in 2011, and was considered a setback for Said.

The Tunisian president said during his meeting at the Carthage Palace with Prime Minister Naglaa Boudin and a number of ministers, including the defense minister and security officials, that "a participation of 9 or 12 percent is better than the 99 percent in which they participated. Telegrams of congratulations were raining in from abroad, and those capitals knew that those elections were rigged."

"We need telegrams of congratulations from the Tunisian people," he added.

Saeed sharply confronted his opponents and critics without naming them, saying, "It happened these days by those who are steeped to the core in corruption and treason, that they take over, day and night, striking state institutions and insulting the state's authority and symbols, and this insult rises to the rank of conspiracy against the internal and external security of the state."

"These situations cannot continue, and these people will not remain without punishment within the framework of the law," the Tunisian president added.

Regarding the shortage of basic foodstuffs, he accused his opponents of "fabricating crises, and their rhetoric about the crisis is to incite against state institutions."

On the other hand, Saeed denied any decline in freedoms and rights in Tunisia since he monopolized the authorities, saying, "Those who cry over freedom of expression do not have freedom of thought, but are mercenaries."

Tunisia has been experiencing a political crisis since Saied decided to monopolize power on July 25, 2021, and later appointed a new government, amended the 2014 constitution, and approved new parliamentary elections at the end of the year.

Since then, NGOs and the opposition have accused the security services of resorting to methods reminiscent of those of the police state under Zine El Abidine Ben Ali's dictatorship.

More than a third of sarva species are threatened with extinction in Europe

Geneva - (AFP) - More than a third of the species of cyclamen , which are insects that play a prominent role in the process of pollinating flowers, are threatened with extinction in Europe due to the intensification of agriculture in particular, according to a preliminary study published by the International Union for Conservation of Nature on Tuesday.

The caterpillar feeds mainly on aphids, and thus contributes to controlling the number of insects harmful to crops. When they become adults, they feed on flowers and thus play an essential role in their pollination, which enhances agricultural production.

An initial European assessment of these insects by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in response to the European Commission's request showed that, like bees, sarids are at risk of extinction.

The association said in a statement that the assessment showed that 314 of the 890 species of larvae in Europe are "vulnerable, threatened or critically endangered".

Federation spokesman Matthias Fischer told AFP that the union indicated that 45 of the 890 species were "not sufficiently documented", meaning that there was not enough information on which to determine their status.

"This means that between 35.28 and 40.33% of sarvy species are threatened with extinction, with 37% as the most likely percentage," he added.

Sarvas are considered, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, essential to world food security, as they represent the second most important group of pollinators in the world after bees.

The intensification of agriculture, the use of hazardous pesticides, deforestation, urban development and climate change are the main factors threatening these insects.

The statement quoted the Federation's Director General, Bruno Oberly, as stressing, "the necessity of transforming all economic sectors, particularly the agricultural sector, to become sustainable and bear positive impacts on nature."

Dr. Frances Gilbert, Co-Chair of the Sarvat Expert Group on the Consortium's Species Conservation Committee, said the key step to help stem population decline is to protect their habitat.

He believes that the most urgent matter is to protect the dead wood and perennial trees that contain holes in which the caterpillars of caterpillars feed, which is a necessary step for many other endangered species.

The study pointed out that more than a quarter (244) of the species evaluated were affected by the deterioration or change of their habitats as a result of factors resulting from climate change, particularly fires that are increasing in frequency.
