The American CNN news network quoted intelligence information saying that Iranian-backed militias are ready to intensify their attacks against American forces in the Middle East, while Iran seeks to benefit from the violent reactions in the region to American support for Israel.

The network reported that Washington now has specific information that militias launched drones on American bases in Iraq and Syria that could escalate their operations as the Gaza war continues.

According to the intelligence officials that CNN spoke to, Iran is still - apparently - limited to encouraging these groups and has not reached the point of directing them, but one of the aforementioned intelligence officials warned of “red signals flashing everywhere.”

The network added that US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said yesterday, Monday, that there is “a very direct connection between these groups” and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, indicating that Washington is “deeply concerned about the possibility of any major escalation of these attacks in the coming days.”

It pointed out that this concern was also echoed by a senior Pentagon official, explaining that these militias may target “American forces and individuals in the near term,” noting that “the path in this leads to Iran, as it is the one responsible for financing, arming, equipping and training the militias and their proxy forces.” Throughout the region,” he said.

The official added that his country is on the lookout for this escalation, "whether in terms of defending our forces or preparing to respond decisively."

Another American official also warned in an interview with CNN that Washington's allies agreed with it to send a clear message to Iran that if it or some of its affiliated groups tried to exploit the situation, this "could have escalatory and very serious consequences."

In the same context, another official ruled out that Iran would be ready to engage in direct combat with Israel or the United States, but pointed out that “directing agents to attack American assets in the Middle East allows Iran to maintain its influence and reputation while managing the risks of escalation.”

The network indicated that Iran, through its Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, also warned the United States and Israel that "if crimes against humanity do not stop immediately, there is a possibility that the region will spiral out of control at any moment."
