A high-ranking American general participates with Israel in planning the war on Gaza
Axios revealed on Monday that the administration of US President Joe Biden recently sent a US Marine general and several other American military officers to Israel to help provide military advice to the Israeli army leadership in its war on Gaza, according to US and Israeli officials familiar with this matter. the operation.
This step reflects the extent of the Biden administration's deep involvement in the war on Gaza and the extent of its appearance in Israeli military planning.
Among the Marine officers sent was Lt. Gen. (Lieutenant General) James Glenn, Axios revealed.
Glenn previously headed Marine Corps Special Operations and participated in operations against ISIS in Iraq.
While the site says that General Glenn and other American military officers do not direct operations, but they provide military advice to the Israeli army about its plans in the war on Gaza, as this focused primarily on the expected Israeli ground invasion. The American officers exchanged the lessons that the United States learned from fighting ISIS in Mosul.
The website notes: “Glenn is not expected to remain in Israel to follow the IDF ground invasion, according to sources with direct knowledge of the issue.”
“We asked several officials with relevant experience, simply to help Israeli officials think through the tough questions ahead and explore their options,” a Pentagon spokesperson told Axios. “The IDF will, as always, make its own decisions.”
It is noteworthy that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken told CBS on Sunday that the Biden administration is talking with Israeli officials about their military plans for Gaza and the best ways to achieve the results they seek.
“We are giving them the best advice,” Blinken said. “And as we said, it is important not only what they do, but also how they do it, especially when it comes to making sure that civilians have as much protection as possible in the crossfire with Hamas.”
Since the beginning of the war, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and General Eric Kurella, head of US Central Command, have visited Israel and met with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and the leadership of the Israeli army.
Israel has been preparing to launch a ground attack on Gaza since the surprise attack launched by Hamas fighters on October 7, saying its goal is to "destroy" the movement, which Israel, the United States and other countries consider a terrorist organization.
It is unclear when Israel will launch the operation, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged earlier that the war would likely be "long and difficult."
