The Israeli occupation army said, in a brief statement, that “a short while ago, an IDF tank mistakenly fired and hit an Egyptian position near the border in the Kerem Shalom area.”
It added: “The incident is under investigation and its details are being examined.” The occupation army expressed, in the statement, “regret” regarding the incident.
The Kerem Shalom kibbutz area, affiliated with the Ashkelon Regional Council, is located on the border between Gaza, Israel and Egypt, and there is a border crossing that connects the three areas (Kerem Shalom crossing).

Witnesses indicated that the explosion occurred following the movement of trucks from the Rafah crossing carrying humanitarian aid to the besieged Gaza Strip, including six trucks that transported fuel to the Strip, from quantities that were previously stored at the border crossing.
On Saturday, international organizations considered that the shipments that entered were “just a drop in the ocean” given the “catastrophic” humanitarian situation for 2.4 million people in Gaza.
For his part, the Egyptian military spokesman said, “During the ongoing clashes in the Gaza Strip, one of the Egyptian border watchtowers was accidentally hit by fragments of a shell from an Israeli tank.”
He added that the bombing resulted in "minor injuries to some border control personnel," and continued, "The Israeli side expressed its regret over the unintentional incident immediately after it occurred, and the circumstances of the incident are being investigated."
