US provides $47 million to hospitals in East Jerusalem
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced on Tuesday morning that it has provided an additional $47 million to the hospital network in occupied East Jerusalem.
The American agency indicated that this payment comes in addition to a previous payment of $14.5 million in July 2022, and all of it is part of the commitment made by US President Joe Biden, which he made during his visit to the region last year, to provide $100 million to hospitals.
The agency said this funding will ensure continued access to critical care by providing $25.5 million for direct debt relief, and another $21.5 million to enhance the long-term sustainability of member hospitals through rehabilitation and renovation of health care facilities, capital investments, and equipment purchases. , capacity building, and technical support.
The statement added: This support for hospitals aims to diversify sources of income and improve the provision of services to patients from the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem. Through this assistance, USAID supports continuous and uninterrupted advanced health care services for Palestinians that are not available through other institutions.
He continued: These services include highly specialized medical services, such as pediatric heart surgery, nephrology, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, and cancer treatment.
The statement indicated that this assistance comes within the framework of the historic support provided by the United States Agency for International Development to hospital networks in East Jerusalem, which amounted to more than $156.5 million since 2014.
