America faces its greatest peril since the Civil War
Republican leaders who claim to put country before party must now rise up with their fellow Democrats and together save the country from far-right Republicans before it's too late. These Republicans have surrendered their souls and their conscience to Trump – a wannabe, criminal, and corrupt dictator who flouts the rule of law and is willing to burn the country down just to regain power.
I still find it hard to comprehend the sinister plans that Republican leaders in the House and Senate concoct just to retain power at any cost to the country and its future. Republicans are terrified of the changing demographics of this country. Many demographers have concluded that by 2045 whites will become a minority in the country, as Hispanic Americans, blacks, and Asians who vote overwhelmingly Democratic will become the dominant majority. In fact, the Republican Party is already the minority party and its numbers will continue to shrink with the demographic evolution.
Yes, if presidential elections are truly free and fair and not skewed by the deeply unequal representation created by the Electoral College that gives outsized sway to the less populous states, another Republican president is unlikely to set foot in the White House. This is why the Republican Party will resort to any means, no matter how racist and corrupt, to manipulate the elections in order to change the results in its favour.
Instead of adapting to the demographic realities facing the United States and developing new social and economic policies and programs to meet the new challenges and attract more Hispanic and Black voters to their ranks, the Republican Party chose to turn to ultraconservatism and white supremacy to protect itself.
Voter suppression
As of December 15, 2021, 32 bills have been passed in 17 states that interfere with the administration of elections, which will result in criminal and civil penalties for election administrators and government officials. Florida, Georgia, and Virginia set up electoral fraud law enforcement units after the 2020 elections, though none of these states had widespread fraud. The GOP election commissioner from Wisconsin bragged about the state's efforts to suppress voting against black and Latino voters. And a new Arizona law passed in March 2022 requires notarized proof of citizenship in order to vote. And in 2021, restrictions passed in Florida and Georgia added barriers to voting by mail, restricting the use of ballot boxes, and more. And at the federal level, the Supreme Court ruled in 2018 in favor of an Ohio law that removes individuals from voter rolls if they do not vote within a two-year period, even if they are still eligible to vote.
Charges and convictions against Trump
Other than enacting these new laws and rules to sway election results in favor of whites, Republicans need a brazen, bigoted populist leader like Trump who is openly a white supremacist and will do anything to regain power. Indeed, not for the love of Trump who is despised by a growing number of Republican leaders, but for the millions who follow him and who have been willfully misinformed and still bask in his lies, with the GOP holding on to the votes the party needs to win the election.
The fact that Republican leaders cling to such an unsavory character is simply mind-boggling. But to understand how corrupt the Republican Party has become and how far its popularity has plummeted by following this irredeemable criminal, a quick look at Trump's character and misdeeds will tell the whole sad story.
This year alone, Trump has faced multiple indictments and civil lawsuits. In April, he was indicted on 34 felony counts of first-degree falsification of business records (all related to payments to Stormy Daniels to conceal facts). The following month Trump was found responsible for the sexual assault of E. Jean Carroll in 1996. That month he was charged with 37 criminal counts of mishandling classified documents, and in October a civil lawsuit was filed against Trump for overestimating the company's assets and his own. fraudulently. And last December, the Trump Organization was found guilty of 17 counts and fined $1.6 million over a 15-year tax fraud scheme. In November 2016, Trump settled a lawsuit against Trump University and paid $25 million over allegations of fraud.
In addition, there are still other ongoing investigations against Trump that are likely to lead to new indictments, including in Fulton County, Georgia, where Trump attempted to illegally overturn the result of the 2020 election. He is also being investigated about his role behind the rebellion of January 6, 2021. None of the above can, in fact, come as a shock. He is the only president in American history to have been impeached twice - first in 2019 for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, and second in 2021 for insurrection related to January 6 (in which 57 senators voted to convict him, including 7 Republican, a vote shy of the 60 votes needed to remove him from office). A man's empty narcissism simply knows no bounds: every time he opens his mouth, he brings shame upon the United States.
More troubling, however, is that Trump embodies the darkness of nihilism. He is the embodiment of the Angolan worldview, which is only concerned with the self, and which values nothing but self-aggrandizement. The fact is that he is a pathetic creature, whose moral decay and people's hatred of him should be a warning to all that a life which is pursued only for power and privilege is a life which necessarily leads to dishonor and disgrace.
The Moral and Political Bankruptcy of the Republican Party
Even more disappointing, the majority of Republicans continue to defend Trump. Instead of acknowledging the overwhelming evidence against him, they choose to follow him blindly, insisting that his troubles are a politically motivated witch hunt when in reality it is these Republicans who are haunted by their fear of never gaining power again.
Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, the leading Republican in Congress (third in line for president, no less) had the savage audacity to tweet in response to Trump's latest indictment: "Every American who believes in the rule of law and I stand with President Trump against this grave injustice." . McCarthy reveals through this tweet that he supports Trump's criminal behavior and has little interest in the rule of law and the future of this great nation. Like his master, he is a shameless liar and hypocrite, and he is a disgrace to the position of Speaker. Unfortunately, this is the man who stands at the head of the Republican Party.
The most terrifying aspect of criminal Republican behavior that must be emphasized is that the unauthorized disclosure of classified documents could endanger the national security of the United States, the security of our friends and allies, and the safety of the United States military, including human sources and the continued viability of sensitive intelligence-gathering methods. This is the highest level of moral and political bankruptcy for the Republican Party, and it is nothing short of a betrayal of the United States and the commitment every Member of Congress swears to uphold to protect America from enemies foreign and domestic.
It is a fact that the Republican Party has become nothing but an organization dedicated to destroying the last vestiges of decency in this country. This is not the party of Lincoln that chose to preserve the Union at all costs, but rather the party that chose to destroy itself and worship Satan, like Trump, who will not stop exploiting the Republican Party, just as the party exploits it to regain power. It is the horror of this symbiotic relationship that poses the greatest threat to America today, and it must be stopped.
Not only has Trump completely corrupted the spirit of this nation, but he represents and epitomizes the moral, epistemological, and spiritual decay of America. It is the most visible symptom of our ruin as a country that values truth, justice, the rule of law and the light of reason.
If the GOP continues down this perilous path, it will be political suicide and they have Trump to thank for the demise of the party as we know it.
