67' Leaks reveals decision to occupy the Golan Heights

Today, Monday, he revealed the protocols of the meetings that took place during the Six-Day War that broke out on June 7, 1967, and how the decision to occupy the Golan Heights was taken.

According to what was published in the Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, 48 hours after the outbreak of the war, the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee met in the Knesset at the Kiria base in Tel Aviv, with the participation of then-Israeli Prime Minister Levi Eshkol, his army minister Moshe Dayan, other ministers, and members of the committee.

At that meeting, which Eshkol described as "historic", an extensive discussion took place about the Syrian plateau, and Dayan objected to taking a decision to occupy it, but in the end he implemented what he decided at that meeting, to open a front with Syria at that time, although that front was quiet compared to Egypt and Jordan He also revealed the secret minutes in the Knesset archives.

According to the minutes of the meeting, Dayan objected to this step because of the relations between Syria and the Soviet Union at the time, and saw that Israel had no interest in crossing international borders and demilitarized zones.

During the session, Aryeh Ben-Eliezer, a member of the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee in the Knesset, objected to Dayan's position, and considered it necessary to occupy the Golan Heights, while Member of Knesset Jacob Hazan said at the time that this war could not end without defeating the Syrian army.

After lengthy discussions, Dayan said that what the government would decide would be implemented by the Israeli army.

Two days after the secret meeting in Kyriat, on the morning of June 9, Dayan changed his mind and ordered the commander of the Northern Command, David Elazar, to launch an attack on the Syrian positions in the Golan Heights, which were then occupied.
