Claims to implement initiatives to preserve the Palestinian environment
Participants and specialists in environmental affairs stressed the need to develop an environmental policy, diagnose the environmental reality, and find solutions that would contribute to the quality of the Palestinian environment, which faces continuous violations.
They pointed out the importance of spreading environmental awareness in the community, provided that it starts from schools, in order to establish the necessity of preserving the environment for a healthy life free from diseases.
This came during a meeting held by the Agricultural Development Association (Agricultural Relief) entitled "The Environmental Situation to Where", in the presence of specialists in environmental affairs, as part of the "Environmental and Climate Justice" program in Palestine, funded by the Swedish Consulate General in Jerusalem, and implemented by the Coalition of NGOs. Palestinian Agriculture Organization (PAIC), in partnership with We Effect and the Environmental Organizations Network (PENGON).
They called for the expansion of environmental initiatives aimed at getting rid of the increasing amount of waste and strengthening the waste sorting methodology among citizens, stressing the necessity of applying the environment law and imposing penalties on anyone who causes its violations.
They pointed out the importance of implementing sustainable projects, educating farmers about the environmental aspects, preparing educational messages that are appropriate for the target groups, and codifying a charter of honor to preserve Palestinian soil in agreement between all sectors and parties, and binding on all, so that the environmental aspect is taken into account in all projects and plans that are implemented.
The media, lobbying and advocacy official at the relief agency, Noha Al-Sharif, said that the meeting aims to shed light on the Palestinian environmental reality, the factors affecting the Palestinian environment, and how to confront them to stop the bleeding in the environment, which suffers a lot as a result of the continuous violations against it.
Al-Sharif referred to the challenges that impede environmental development, represented in the lack of environmental culture among the Palestinian people, which was reflected in his behavior towards the environment, and the increase in the amount of waste that reaches landfills without real benefit from it in recycling projects, stressing that the great destruction of the Palestinian environment requires work on Around the clock in terms of adopting projects that support and influence them.
Farah Al-Jabour, the project coordinator, confirmed that the meeting also aims to hear from specialists about environmental problems and solutions that would contribute to improving the deteriorating situation as a result of the continuous violations against the Palestinian environment.
She said that what was shown - in reference to a film that embodies the reality of the environment in Gaza after years - confirms the importance of joint action in order to preserve the environment because it means life in all its details.
Al-Jabour said that this paper recommended the importance of promoting the environmental culture of the Palestinian people, starting from childhood, activating the laws related to environmental crimes and applying them, and networking between the relevant institutions to reach a vision of a healthy environment that can be applied.
And she stressed the importance of working on adopting environmental initiatives in which members of society participate, forming media forums specialized in environmental affairs, and optimal investment of digital media in promoting positive environmental behaviors, and working on establishing national initiatives entitled "Its safety in your environment."
