The story of the organization... here, not in "Malmö"
If we conducted a professional and impartial opinion poll about the reality of the PLO, and its presence in the life of the Palestinian people now, and in comparison with what it was like at the time of its coronation at the Rabat Summit as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, and when the late great Yasser Arafat delivered Palestine's speech before the United Nations General Assembly, and when it fought The longest battle of confrontation with Israel, when it was expelled from Lebanon, but it developed its political presence worldwide, in addition to its permanent leadership of all activities of the Palestinian people in the homeland and in the diaspora.
If we conduct a survey provided it is professional and fair, I expect and hope I'm wrong that the result will be as follows:
The younger generation, which was born and then matured over the past quarter of a century, does not know much about it.
The elderly generation: who founded it and participated in its most important achievements
He speaks with regret about her condition, at the time of wholesale retirement, not for individuals but for the institutions that were the basis of the organization's prosperity and the strength of its presence, and now it is almost non-existent except in headlines and conversations of memories.
- Those on the homeland: they see it hidden behind the authority, which in turn is hidden behind its unresolved crises, behind the blockage of the political horizon, the perpetuation of the division, and the end of mere attempts to remedy it.
- And those outside the homeland: they live inside a big question.. Where are we? And what is our role? And where is the PLO when it was the unifying framework for every Palestinian, regardless of his political persuasion? At that time when our National Assembly was one of the strongest and most important parliaments in the world.
No Palestinian asked the question of who represents me? And who is leading my national struggle? No one speaks on my behalf in all forums.. The PLO, strong and inclusive, answered all questions and persuaded everyone to answer them.. The PLO was present with the strength of its popularity and the rallying of all Palestinians around it, from the furthest place thousands of miles away from Palestine to the heart of Palestine itself. It was not a presence provided by the media, money, or even the deep need for a comprehensive national identity, but in addition to all that, it was a presence based on convincing achievement in all areas in which the organization led its people, and devoted its merit and the merit of its cause as the "central cause" for the Arab and Islamic worlds, and for all peoples aspiring for freedom justice and the right to self-determination.
The question cannot be answered by restoring the achievements of the past to fill the vacuum of the present. The question is... Where is the PLO and where is the comprehensive alignment behind it... Where are its institutions... Where is its presence on the homeland, and in every place where there are Palestinians?
Where is the old alignment of all forces and factions within their frameworks and around their programmes, even the opposition ones?
Where is the national unity? And the matter here is not only between Fatah and Hamas, not between Gaza and the West Bank, and not between the authority and the people.
She scattered and distributed her blood to the feuding tribes to the crumbs.
Egypt despaired, Algeria despaired, and before them Yemen despaired, Saudi Arabia despaired, Moscow despaired, and everyone who tried to end the division of one people and one homeland despaired. Not only were there no attempts, but there was no talk of ending the division. Every day that passes without a solution is an inevitable transition to separation.
Using the glories of the past to fill the void of the present does not work. The organization’s story, existence, role, effectiveness and future has no solution except on the homeland. As for the Swedish “Malmö”, it is just one link in a chain produced by the weakness of the center.
Every Palestinian issue "and we are in the circle of looting" if it is not addressed on the homeland and by the action of the people who promise millions and whose principle is steadfastness on the ground, whatever the costs, then there is no remedy for it, neither in Malmö nor anywhere else.
