The mother of the prisoner, Wael Al-Jaghoub.. A glimmer of hope looms in her heart despite the long separation

A choke in the heart renews every time the mother of the prisoner, Wael Naim al-Jaghoub, looks at the only picture that brings them together inside the prison walls. She sighs and tears flood her eyes.

Umm Wael talks to Al-Quds.com about her separation from her liver, who hails from the town of Beita, south of Nablus and is sentenced to life imprisonment in the Israeli occupation prisons, with great vigor and determination despite the depth of the crack in her soul. very sad.

She tells us the details of her son's arrest in a whining tone, saying: "Wael tasted the bitterness of imprisonment twice, the first when he was 16 years old in 1992, and his detention lasted six years, during which he finished high school."

Three years after his liberation - according to Umm Wael - that is, at the beginning of the second Palestinian intifada, he was arrested again on May 1, 2001, to be sentenced to life in prison by the unjust occupation, from which he spent (22 years), after completing his studies at Al-Quds Open University to obtain a bachelor's degree. Majoring in marketing, while working as a sales coordinator for a local newspaper.

She eagerly continued: "The occupation was not satisfied with depriving me of my son until he prevented me from visiting him for four consecutive years, and at that time I used to send his younger brothers alone to visit him in prison, and after a long struggle I was able to obtain an entry permit, and I was also surprised that one time I went to see him that he was not The occupation army allowed me to pass through Al-Taybeh checkpoint, and they took my permit without prior notice.”

Umm Wael speaks heartily about the days and years that she lives without Wael, saying: "I began to avoid some of the usual work at home because it immediately reminds me of my son Wael, especially preparing some of the food he wanted. Also, when I see him, we do not talk about the details of daily life, so our conversation is limited to the family's conditions." And what changed in his absence, since all of his younger brothers got married and had children, he could not see any of them.”

She added: "The anniversary of his birth on May 23, 1976 is approaching, and it was the custom previously for the prison administration to allow us to take a souvenir photo together, but as a result of the unfair procedures against our imprisoned sons, I will not see him except behind the restrictions that prevent us, which makes me less happy to see him after." To suffer when the time comes for each visit.”

The most beautiful moment was still in her tender heart when she was able to meet her captive son for the first time without restrictions, and she was able to hug him for a few minutes, in order to take a single picture with him several years ago, she said.

Umm Wael continued her speech about what the prisoner Al-Jaghoub was subjected to inside the occupation cells, saying: “After 20 years that Wael lived in prisons, he was returned in 2021 again to solitary confinement, where the infernal conditions that all prisoners suffer from inside him, and at that time his health was affected and he had ulcers in his stomach, after which he was transferred to the hospital, and then his condition stabilized.

And she added: “My son fought the battle of empty stomachs several times, and he spent twenty-seven days in his longest strike in 2017, and I certainly had mixed feelings when I learned that Wael had entered an open-ended hunger strike, and at that time I could not know his news, as all means of communication with him were cut off, just as The visitation program stops, as this matter is not easy for us at all.”

Umm Wael became the voice of her son outside the prisons of the occupation, and she did not leave any activity or sit-in in solidarity with the prisoners without participating in it, to be the supportive support for him and his companions in the families, out of her belief in the importance of the role she plays, considering that this is the least duty she can offer her son to keep the glimmer of hope present. Despite the pain that did not pass.

She urges the families of the prisoners to participate in all activities in support of their children in the occupation prisons, assuring them that every event that is held has a great impact on the hearts of their children and raises their spirits, which makes them feel very happy when they see them through the media available in the prisons.

It is worth mentioning that the prisoner Al-Jaghoub moved between a number of Israeli prisons until he was recently imprisoned in Gilboa prison, and he spends his days reading and writing articles about the captive movement, in addition to writing books in which he narrates the journey of torment within families, renewing his patriotic duty with these literary works, so that he was called a "Abu al-Huruf", and became one of the writers of the captive movement, and he has several publications, including: The Book of Captive Dreams, and the book The Arbitrary Experience in collaboration with the prisoner Kamil Abu Hanish.
