refugee president
President Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine, hosted a Ramadan iftar, to which he invited a large group of segments of the Palestinian political and civil society, in addition to a number of ambassadors, academics and media professionals. After Iftar, he delivered a speech embracing the right of return, and his title was adherence to the national constants.
The speech was filled with a sense of refuge and adherence to national constants, foremost of which is the right of return of Palestinian refugees to their homes from which they were expelled as a result of the genocide to which the Palestinian people were subjected in the Nakba War. In most parts of the speech, the president's call for the implementation of Partition Resolutions No. 181 and Return Resolution No. 194 was repeated, and he repeated in his hadith more than 50 times vocabulary related to asylum, return, displacement and the Nakba. Not only that, but he shifted responsibility for the catastrophe to the western countries that strengthened the concept of the national home for the Jews in Palestine. And it forced the Jews in the world to establish this homeland in Palestine in order to get rid of their problems first, and in order to rely on them to preserve their colonial interests in the region second. The important addition in the President's speech is the analysis of the historical evidence indicating that the Jewish majority is not convinced of establishing a national home for them in Palestine and prefers to stay in Western countries. This is entirely consistent with what Ilan Pappe went to in writing The Ethnic Cleansing of the Palestinians, that Zionism is the movement of the Jewish minority.
The President referred to the importance of commemorating the 77th anniversary of the Nakba in various parts of the world, including the corridors of the United Nations, to which he will go this year himself in order to commemorate the anniversary and to demand the international community to assume its moral and legal responsibilities towards the Palestinian people, and on top of these responsibilities is the recognition of an independent Palestinian state and the return of Palestinian refugees. to their homes.
The President clearly indicated that historical Palestine is the national and historical homeland of the Palestinian people, that it is the homeland of the Canaanite Arab Palestinians, and that the Zionists are a group of gangs that usurped the Palestinian land and displaced people.
Asylum in the president's speech is not only a political stance, but rather a personal stance that the president, his family and the people of his city, Safed, went through while they were fleeing their city in the 1948 war as a result of the genocide carried out by the Zionist gangs. That is why we sense the extent of suffering, sadness, and bitterness in his words when he talks about the Palestinian villages and cities that were destroyed in the Nakba, and their number exceeded 530 villages and cities. In fact, the President embodied in his speech the meaning and bitterness of asylum, and the constants of the Palestinian refugee who adheres to his right to return and compensation. Anyone who heard his speech realizes the extent of this bitterness in his words when he talks about a people who were displaced from their land before the eyes of the world. He speaks with the language of the refugee and with his unceasing self in the struggle for his rights. In his speech, the President assured everyone that he would never give up the right of return for the Palestinian refugees, because it is a sacred right and one of the Palestinian constants, such as the state and Jerusalem. In fact, these positions, and this historical memory replete with speech, are not surprising when the president is a refugee. At that time, the key to return must be in his heart, approach, and knowledge.
