The President: We call on our people to stand together to face the challenges
The President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas , held a Ramadan Iftar for the various segments of our Palestinian people, at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.
The breakfast was attended by members of the Palestinian leadership , Muslim and Christian clerics, a number of ambassadors and consuls accredited to the State of Palestine, members of the government, leaders of the security services, families of martyrs, prisoners and wounded, judges, academics, journalists and businessmen.
His Excellency said, We congratulate you and our Palestinian people and all believers in the world on these blessed days of the blessed month of Ramadan, and the approaching Eid Al-Fitr and the Glorious Day of Resurrection, which are religious and national occasions for our people.
His Excellency continued: We all salute the mother of the martyrs and the mother of the heroic prisoners, the mother of Nasser Abu Hamid, who presented the martyrs and prisoners and even her home that was demolished by the Israeli occupation authorities.
The President added that the presence of all of our people, in all its segments, under the umbrella of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the flag of the State of Palestine, in these delicate circumstances that our cause is going through, clearly expresses the great responsibility placed upon us to enhance steadfastness, survival and struggle for Jerusalem and Palestine. Let's get to the path of freedom and independence.
And His Excellency continued, in these blessed days, we call on all our people to stand together to face the challenges facing our cause, our land and our sanctities, and focus our compass towards confronting the occupation and getting rid of it.
The President paid tribute to our honorable martyrs, our heroic prisoners, and our brave wounded, praising the steadfastness of our people in the refugee camps in the homeland and in the diaspora, and our people in Jerusalem, Gaza and everywhere, reiterating the pledge to preserve our national constants that were taken by our brothers before, led by the martyr Yasser Arafat . We will not back down from it and we will continue our national march until the end of the Israeli occupation of the land of the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital, the return of the Palestinian refugees and the release of all prisoners.
His Excellency pointed out that the United Nations will celebrate for the first time, on the fifteenth of next May, the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Nakba of the Palestinian people, in its corridors, and Palestinians everywhere are required to commemorate this memory, because it is the first time that they do not deny our Nakba.
The president added, commemorating the Nakba must be at the top of our priorities in order to preserve our narrative, which we must adhere to and convey to the whole world, which has become a shining truth with which we confront all lies and false narratives that attempt to distort history and facts.
His Excellency touched on the latest political developments, stressing the firm Palestinian position adhering to international legitimacy as a basis for resolving our national issue and ending the Israeli occupation of the land of the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
His Excellency said: What we witnessed today in terms of attacks on our people celebrating the "Sabbath of Light" in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in occupied Jerusalem, which was preceded by attacks on worshipers in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the desecration of its courtyards, is something condemned and rejected, and it reveals the falsity of the occupation, which claims to allow freedom of worship in Holy places, and His Excellency affirmed that Jerusalem, with its Islamic and Christian sanctities, is a red line, and we will not accept an attack on worshipers in Al-Aqsa and the Day of Resurrection.
In conclusion, Muhammad Baraka delivered a speech on behalf of the audience, in which he thanked His Excellency for this inclusive invitation to all segments of Palestinian society, stressing the importance of such calls in strengthening Palestinian national unity.
