Turkey considers preventing Afghan women from attending university an "un-Muslim and inhumane decision"
Istanbul - (AFP) - Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Thursday that banning Afghan women from attending universities by a decision by the Taliban movement "is neither a Muslim nor a humane decision."
"This ban is neither a Muslim nor a humane decision. We reject this ban and do not consider it fair. We hope, God willing, that they will abandon this decision," the Turkish minister said during a press conference.
Cavusoglu asked, "How does the education of women harm humanity?"
Turkey is the only country in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) that has kept its embassy open in Kabul since the return of the Taliban to power in August 2021.
And the Taliban government announced on Tuesday that Afghan universities are banned indefinitely for females who were originally deprived of secondary education since the extremist movement came to power.
