Washington offers a $10 million reward for finding six Russian hackers
Washington (AFP) - The United States said it is offering a $10 million reward for information leading to the arrest of six Russian military intelligence agents accused of carrying out devastating cyberattacks against companies around the world in 2017.
Last October, a grand jury in a US federal court indicted agents of the Russian Military Intelligence Unit 74455 for their role in a series of cyberattacks, some of which affected the Ukrainian energy network.
The US State Department accuses these individuals of also being involved in an information attack in 2017 that targeted a number of companies around the world and damaged computers in hospitals across the United States, causing losses estimated at one billion dollars.
Given the likely presence of the accused in Russia, their extradition cannot be requested.
The Kremlin denied the accusations, describing them as an "anti-Russian" campaign.
Russian military intelligence has been accused of a large number of cyber attacks around the world, some of which are related to the US presidential campaign in 2016.
