Vietnam opens a glass bridge over one of its forests

Vietnam - (AFP) - Vietnam has opened a long glass pedestrian bridge at an altitude of 150 meters above one of its forests, and those who climb it feel as if they are walking in the air.
The tourist walkway called "Bach Long", which means "white dragon" in Vietnamese, was built in the city of Son La (northwest), and it extends along the front of a mountain and ends as a suspension bridge under which lies a stunning valley.

"Looking down is a bit strange at first, but you have to step forward with confidence and it will be amazing," visitor Nguyen Thi Trang told AFP.

The floor of the bridge was made of tempered French glass and can support about 450 people at the same time, providing visitors with a beautiful view of the vegetation below.

"Visitors can enjoy the beauty of nature just by standing on the bridge," said Hoang Manh Dewi, an official of the bridge operator.
The operators confirmed that the bridge is the tallest glass-floor structure in the world, surpassing the 526-meter-high suspension bridge in Guangdong, China.
Guinness World Records representatives are expected to announce next month whether the bridge is a record.

The Vietnamese authorities are seeking to re-attract tourists after a two-year lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as almost all foreign travelers were banned from visiting Vietnam.

In mid-March, the communist country stopped imposing quarantines on foreign visitors and reintroduced visa waivers for tourists from 13 countries.

The Bach Long Bridge is the third glass bridge in Vietnam.
"I hope it will attract more local and foreign tourists to our area," said a local resident after crossing the bridge.
