53 years since the Al-Aqsa Mosque fire
Ramallah - "Jerusalem" dot com - Today, Sunday, the twenty-first of August, marks the 53rd anniversary of the burning of Al-Aqsa Mosque , on this day in 1969.
A huge fire broke out in the eastern wing of the Al-Qibli prayer hall on the southern side of Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the fire devoured the entire contents of that area, including the historic Salah al-Din minbar, and the fire was supposed to reach the Dome of the Rock.
This premeditated crime was committed by Michael Dennis Rohn, a Jew holding Australian citizenship, who came to Palestine under the pretext of tourism, and who then claimed that he was "crazy" and deported him to his country, and he died in 1995 inside Australia.
This crime led to angry reactions in the Arab and Islamic street, while thousands of Palestinians answered the Friday prayer call the next day in the outer square of Al-Aqsa, and later demonstrations spread in various Palestinian governorates and various capitals.
