Mansour calls on the Security Council to ensure that the Palestinians obtain their rights

New York - "Jerusalem" dot com - Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations , Riyad Mansour , called on the members of the Council to end the exclusion of the Palestinian people from the same rights that international instruments were enacted to guarantee, noting that after 75 years, expropriation, displacement and deprivation continue The Palestinian people have their rights.

Dr. Mansour's speech came at a session held by the UN Security Council, chaired by Japan, on the rule of law. It was held at the ministerial level under the title "Encouraging and Strengthening the Rule of Law in the Maintenance of International Peace and Security: The Rule of Law Among Nations", where it was an open discussion in which the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio, participated. Guterres, who touched in his speech on the situation in Palestine, and stressed that any annexation of the lands of a country by another country as a result of the threat or use of force constitutes a violation of the Charter and international law.

Mansour added that there are two basic principles at the heart of the international law system, namely the right of peoples to self-determination and the inadmissibility of acquiring lands by force. "Palestine embodies the violation of these two principles. Aggression, annexation and apartheid are things that happen in Palestine," stressing that this deserves immediate attention and action by the Security Council.

Mansour asked about the place of the rule of international law when it comes to Palestine, saying that all members of this council and all members of the United Nations recognize that international law is being violated in Palestine.

Stressing that the rule of law cannot coexist with impunity, he said: “Has one Israeli official, an Israeli general, an Israeli soldier, an Israeli settler ever held accountable? It is not surprising, then, that Israel continues to choose colonial occupation over peace. It is betting on peace.” She will get away with it."

He explained that there is no rule of international law if the rules change depending on the identity of the perpetrators and the identity of the victims, stressing that double standards constitute an attack on the credibility and authority of international law and undermine its protection everywhere.

Dr. Mansour touched on Israel's recent imposition of sanctions on the Palestinian people, civil society and leadership, recalling that before that, Israel had classified Palestinian non-governmental organizations as terrorist organizations, and despite the international condemnation of this designation, Israel refused to retract it.

He said that Israel insulted and attacked the Security Council, the General Assembly and the Human Rights Council, independent United Nations experts and committees, the International Criminal Court, the International Court of Justice, and international and Israeli non-governmental organizations for human rights, because of any criticism of its illegal actions and crimes.

Among the speakers in the Security Council to whom Dr. Riyad Mansour expressed his appreciation are Joanne E. Donoghue, President of the International Court of Justice, and Professor Dabo Akande, Professor of Public International Law at the University of Oxford.
