Supporting journalists: targeting journalists in Nablus to obscure the occupation's crimes against civilians

Gaza - "Jerusalem" dot com - Today, Thursday, the Journalist Support Committee condemned the occupation forces' shooting at photographers Hassan Qamhieh and Nasser Shtayyeh in Nablus , stressing that the soldiers deliberately wounded them to cover up the violations committed by the occupation against the Palestinians.

In a statement, the committee condemned the systematic violations against Palestinian journalists, in clear evidence of disregard for international humanitarian law, including the "Fourth Geneva Convention for the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War of 1949."

The committee had issued its annual report for the past year 2022, pointing to the high frequency of attacks against journalists, indicating that violations against the press amounted to more than 707, including the killing of two journalists and more than 215 attacks and shootings of journalists.

The report indicated that the targets were directly targeted by live or rubber-coated bullets, or by beating and kicking with sticks and rifle butts, causing injury, fractures and bruises all over their bodies, humiliation and degrading treatment, suffocation due to inhalation of poison gas and pepper gas, and the destruction and destruction of their equipment.

The Committee called on international institutions concerned with freedom of opinion and expression, led by the International Federation of Journalists, Reporters Without Borders and the United Nations Human Rights Rapporteur, to continuously intervene in following up on what journalists are exposed to in the occupied Palestinian territories, and to make every effort at the international level to ensure pressure is applied on the occupation government. To stop its crimes against Palestinian civilians and their property in general, and its crimes against journalists in particular.
