A lawsuit in Russia against Putin for using the word "war" to describe the attack on Ukraine
Moscow - (AFP) - A member of a municipal council in Russia announced that he had filed a lawsuit against President Vladimir Putin , accusing him of publishing "false information" about the army because of the master of the Kremlin's use of the word "war" when he was talking about the military operation launched by his forces in Ukraine . .
On Thursday, the Russian president used the word "war" during a press conference, stressing that he wanted the conflict in Ukraine to end "as soon as possible."
Russia's military intervention in Ukraine began on February 24, but its official name in Russia is a "special military operation."
And the Russian authorities issued a law providing for severe prison sentences against anyone who publishes “false” information about the Russian army.
To date, many have been convicted of spreading false information about the army, especially because they described the conflict in Ukraine as a "war".
According to the complaint filed by a member of the Municipal Council in St. Petersburg, Nikita Yuverev, before the Russian Prosecutor General, Igor Krasnov, and published its text on his Twitter account on Thursday evening, that "the Russian Federation has not waged any war."
He continued, "In line with a decision of the President of the Russian Federation issued on February 24, 2022, what is happening is a special operation," calling for an investigation into Putin's statements and prosecution for "disseminating false information about the Russian army."
The chances of the investigation reaching results are very slim, noting that the text of the municipal council member contains several inaccuracies, such as the date of Putin’s speech and the president’s name, which was once mentioned in the feminine form.
However, the initiative remains very rare in a country where the crackdown has accelerated since the start of the Russian attack on Ukraine.
Several court cases have been opened against opposition politicians and individuals who have criticized this Russian interference.
In early December, dissident Ilya Yashin was sentenced in Moscow to eight and a half years in prison for denouncing the Russian attack in Ukraine on YouTube.
