In a series of tweets, the French president also said that he had discussed with the founder of Tesla "future green industrial projects, such as the production of electric cars and batteries," without going into further details.

"This afternoon I met Elon Musk and we had a clear and frank discussion," Macron wrote.

For his part, Musk said he was "excited" about "exciting projects in France," without elaborating.

This meeting, which lasted an hour, was not previously announced by the Elysee, and it took place away from the media.

Macron posted a picture of himself with Musk at the New Orleans Museum of Art, which is where the French president then gave a speech on Francophonie at the end of a three-day state visit to the United States.
