Jordan Adopts Pre-Reservation Mechanism for Departures Through the "King Hussein Bridge"
AMMAN - (Xinhua) Jordan announced today, Tuesday, that it has adopted a pre-booking mechanism for users of the "King Hussein Bridge" to facilitate the movement of departing passengers to the Palestinian territories and prevent crowds, starting next Sunday.
The Jordanian Ministry of Interior said, in a statement, that the reservation will be made through the electronic link of the company that works to provide the service of transporting departures from the "King Hussein Bridge" or through its offices "without the company charging any additional sums" as of August 14.
The ministry stated that this measure comes within the framework of "continuing support efforts for the Palestinian brothers, and within the ministry's procedures, to facilitate the movement of departures on the King Hussein Bridge towards the Palestinian territories, in a way that guarantees preventing overcrowding and overcrowding and not costing the departing more time and effort."
The Jordanian Minister of Interior, Mazen Al-Faraya, announced last July that there were logistical problems on the Israeli side of the bridge.
Al-Faraya said, "The logistical problem is related to the very low capacity of the Israeli side to receive travelers, and this prevents all travelers from crossing the bridge," noting that the crossing from the Israeli side opens at 8 am, and the arrival of travelers to the bridge starts early, which results in overcrowding.
The unprecedented increase in the number of travelers is due to several reasons, including the interruption of travel for two years due to the Corona crisis, school holidays, the return of expatriates, and the summer period.
In its statement, the Jordanian Ministry of the Interior clarified the reservation procedures, and said that "the departing person makes reservations through the electronic link that the company recently created after the cases of congestion witnessed by the King Hussein Bridge in the middle of last July, or reservations through the company's offices, and thus the departing person can know the timing of departure." And the number of the bus and the number of the complex designated for crossing to the other side.
According to the ministry, this measure will prevent congestion on the bridge.
In the same context, the ministry, in coordination with all concerned authorities, will continue to facilitate the movement of departures by simplifying procedures at the "King Hussein Bridge" from the Jordanian side, according to the statement.
The "King Hussein Bridge" is used by those departing from Jordan to the Palestinian Territories, after which the traveler goes to the Israeli crossing (Allenby) and undergoes precise inspection procedures that take time, followed by departure to the Palestinian side through the (Al-Karama) crossing.
