Egyptian and Qatari efforts to reach a comprehensive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip

Qatar and Egypt affirmed in a joint statement on Wednesday that their mediation efforts in the Gaza Strip are ongoing and consistent, and are based on a unified vision to end the unprecedented humanitarian crisis in the Strip.

The statement explained that the mediators' efforts aim to alleviate the suffering of civilians by creating the appropriate conditions for achieving a comprehensive ceasefire.

The two countries stressed that "attempts to sow discord between our brothers, through doubt, distortion, or media escalation, will not succeed and will not deter them from continuing their joint efforts to end this war and the humanitarian catastrophe it has caused."

The statement also affirmed that the two countries will not be drawn into any internal processes or side calculations that do not serve the interests of the Palestinian people. They renewed their full commitment to working within a clear framework focused on alleviating suffering and consolidating calm, leading to a permanent solution.

The two countries said in the statement that they are coordinating closely with the United States to reach an agreement that will end the humanitarian tragedy and ensure the protection of civilians.

Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari said on Tuesday that mediation efforts to broker a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip between Hamas and Israel "are continuing despite the difficult situation."

In response to the Israeli accusations against Qatar, he said that political polarization in Israel was the reason for the accusations against Qatar, noting that his country is an internationally recognized honest mediator.

He explained that the positive statements issued by the President of the occupying state, Isaac Herzog, regarding Qatari mediation efforts and previous agreements contradict the practices of other Israeli institutions, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which continue to distort the Qatari role. He emphasized that this discrepancy reflects the extent of the internal political division within Israel, which constitutes the primary motivation behind these conflicting statements.

Al-Ansari noted, "Our mediation with the remaining parties has not ceased since day one and continues despite these accusations. We are fully aware of the parties obstructing an agreement, even though numerous opportunities have been available to end the war and achieve a permanent ceasefire."
