Taliban members fire in the air to disperse a gathering of women in support of demonstrators in Iran
Kabul - (AFP) - Taliban militants fired in the air Thursday to disperse a gathering of women organized in front of the Iranian embassy in Kabul, in support of Iranian women who have been demonstrating in their country for days, according to AFP journalists.
About 25 women demonstrated for 15 minutes on the road in front of the Iranian embassy and chanted "Women, life, freedom", before they were separated by gunshots in the air fired by the Taliban who were standing in front of the building. They also tried to beat female demonstrators with sticks.
The demonstrators chanted slogans, including "Iran is rising up, now it's our turn" and "From Kabul to Iran, say no to dictatorship!"
They were carrying banners with slogans written on them, before the Taliban snatched them from their hands.
The women, who had hidden their faces behind sunglasses or masks, collected what was left of the banners, turned them into paper balls and threw them at the Taliban who were standing opposite them.
The officers ordered the journalists to delete the photos and videos they took during the gathering.
Demonstrations have been organized in Iran every evening since September 16, following the announcement of the death of the young woman, Mahsa Amini, in the hospital, three days after she was arrested by the morality police in Tehran because of her non-compliance with the strict dress code imposed on women in the Islamic Republic of Iran .
