Finland decides to provide two million euros in additional support to UNRWA
Helsinki - "Jerusalem" dot com - The Finnish government decided to provide two million euros to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees " UNRWA ", in addition to the annual support it provides of 5 million euros for the benefit of the Agency.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Amal Jado, praised Finland's role and its political and development support for Palestine, following this decision.
Jado thanked the Finnish government, represented by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for all its support and solidarity with the Palestinian people, stressing the Finnish role in supporting the steadfastness of Palestinians in Area C, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, especially continuing to support Jerusalem hospitals.
This came during Jado's chairmanship of the political consultations session between the Palestinian and Finnish Ministries of Foreign Affairs, in the presence of the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Finland, Tayseer Al-Ajouri, and a third secretary from the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Finland, Georgi Annab, and a second secretary from the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Yaad Jaradat, and from the Finnish side, the Undersecretary of the Ministry External Joanna Somofori.
On the Finnish side, the session was chaired by the Director General of African and Middle East Affairs at the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sophie From Emesberg, with the participation of the Finnish Ambassador to the State of Palestine, Paeve Peltokoski, and the Palestine file official at the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jarno Vilamäki.
Jado reviewed the recent Palestinian political and diplomatic move, and briefed the audience on the latest developments in the Palestinian arena and the ongoing flagrant Israeli violations against the Palestinian people.
It emphasized the increasing incidents of violence by Israeli settlers under the protection of the occupation army, as well as the Israeli government's persistence in settlement expansion, and the violations practiced by Israel against Islamic and Christian sanctities.
She touched on the latest developments regarding the Palestinian reconciliation file, and the obstacles to holding Palestinian elections in light of the exclusion of our Jerusalemites from participation, renewing her call to the Finnish side to recognize the State of Palestine, and to advance the previous negotiations to sign the full partnership agreement between Palestine and the European Union in the near future.
For her part, Emsberg affirmed the friendly relations between the two countries, and her country's interest in the course of events in Palestine. She renewed her country's support for the work of the "UNRWA" agency, and increased the support allocated to the agency during the last three years by 10 million euros, in addition to the annual support that Finland provides to the agency by 5 million euros. Millions of euros, announcing the Finnish government's intention to provide an additional two million euros to UNRWA, because of its essential role in providing health and education services to Palestinians in refugee camps inside and outside the homeland.
And she stressed the depth of the bilateral relations that bind the two countries, and her desire to strengthen them in all areas of common interest, stressing in this context her country's permanent support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights to establish their independent state according to the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with the vision of the two-state solution.
The meeting also discussed the bilateral relations between Palestine and Finland, and ways to increase direct trade exchange between the two countries, in addition to Finland's developmental support for the Palestinian education sector, which is closely followed by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Helsinki, with the aim of enhancing and completing opportunities for cooperation in the fields. research and the exchange of professors and students between Palestinian universities and their Finnish counterparts, at a sustainable pace.
Also, Undersecretary Jado delivered a lecture at the University of Helsinki entitled "The Role of the International Community in Saving the Two-State Solution". During her visit to the Finnish capital, Undersecretary Jadu will hold meetings with the Foreign Affairs Committee, the Human Rights Committee, and the Finnish-Palestinian Friendship Committee in the Finnish Parliament.
