According to the Hebrew channel Reshet Kan, the child was in his family's vehicle when a soldier opened fire at them, although they did not pose any danger to the lives of any of the soldiers.

The soldier claimed that he fired because he believed that the occupants of the vehicle had buried the body of a Palestinian child in nearby land.

An Israeli military spokesman said that the shooting was carried out in violation of the rules and there was no life-threatening situation that required shooting at the vehicle.
