An Argentine school allows its students to wear swimwear to face the heat wave

(AFP) - In light of the heat wave that has been sweeping several regions in Argentina for about two weeks, a school in Rosario (north) made an exceptional decision to allow students to wear swimming clothes, so that they can moisturize their bodies during breaks, according to local media. Monday.
On Monday, the temperature reached 38 degrees Celsius in Buenos Aires and other provinces in the northern center of the country, with record temperatures recorded during the current summer in the southern hemisphere, which was classified as the hottest since the start of recording temperature data in Buenos Aires in 1906, and since the year 1961 nationwide.
Several schools closed their doors last week due to problems with air conditioning, or waiting for temperatures to drop as expected in the second half of the week.
Classes were suspended on Wednesday and Thursday in the secondary classes at Francisco Gorochaga School located in Rosario (310 km from Buenos Aires), due to problems preventing the possibility of using air conditioners. However, the administration sought to avoid making a similar decision for primary classes.
The administration said in a letter it sent to the students' parents last week and was reported by the local daily newspaper, "La Capitale," that "we have made a decision that whoever wants from the students can go to school in swimming clothes and sandals, while bringing his own towel and other clothes in case he wants to take off his swimming costume," adding that “The rest periods will be in screened places, with the possibility of using the water hoses for the children to hydrate themselves.”
"This decision should be evaluated from an educational point of view," Principal Marian Sanchez told La Capitale, adding, "We have never seen a similar heat wave in the region, and the school must find a solution in this regard."
