Smotrich confiscates 320 million shekels of Palestinian funds

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has decided to confiscate 320 million shekels of tax money collected for the Palestinian Authority and transfer it to the families of Israeli dead.

According to the Israeli Army Radio, Smotrich indicated that this step is part of a series of measures aimed at stopping the Palestinian Authority’s funding of Palestinian operations and the families of the perpetrators.

Smotrich considered that the decision aims to achieve the security of the Israelis by preventing support for Palestinian operations, according to his expression.

The measures also included freezing the transfer of funds to the Gaza Strip and stopping payments to Palestinian prisoners.

Smotrich announced the formation of a team to review the financial expenditures of the Palestinian Authority annually, with the aim of ensuring that no money is spent on the families of martyrs or prisoners.

Smotrich pointed out that there is a plan to review the financial expenditures of the Palestinian Authority annually, to ensure that the salaries of prisoners or families of martyrs are not funded.

A report is scheduled to be submitted in early 2026 to assess whether the Palestinian Authority has complied with these conditions, and it will then be decided whether tax transfers will continue or not.

Smotrich added that he intends to take measures to stop what he calls “funding incitement” in mosques, schools and the media, by stopping the financial support provided by the authority to these sectors, which he said receive funding from the clearance funds and contribute to incitement.
