The union, not the prosecution!

Just as lawyers, doctors, pharmacists, and many other professions have unions that set standards and conditions for membership for their members, journalists have a union that has its own laws, ethics, and matrices that regulate the work of workers in its field. It is the most capable and reliable in identifying violations and the degree of deviation from professional ethics for its members or other media outlets operating in its areas of jurisdiction, or those who have become known as “YouTubers,” “Influencers,” or “TikTokers,” and others who crowd the vast digital space, most of whom are beyond control and believe in the openness of arenas and spaces. They are the most influential and influential in formulating and shaping public opinion trends.

We say this in the heat of the heated debate caused by the decision of the Ministerial Committee, composed of the Ministries of Culture, Interior and Communications, to recommend to the Attorney General to suspend the work of the Al Jazeera crew in Palestine, which is a matter closer to union work than to government intervention by blocking and closing, and the questions that arise from it that deduct more from the state’s account than they affect the targeted medium; this is because “everything forbidden is desired.”

What happened in the era of censorship and the “gatekeeper” is not right in the era of digital media, information flow and the “citizen journalist.”

Adopting policies of blocking and prohibition in an era of open skies and free flow of news and secrets is deplorable. Dealing with rumors and fabrications is not done by blocking and closures, but rather requires providing information.

Stop the genocide now.
