Gaza Health: The occupation has completely destroyed the health system and prevents the disabled from traveling
The Director General of the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, said, “The Israeli occupation has completely destroyed the health system in the Gaza Strip, including hospitals that provide care for people with disabilities in the Strip.”
He added during a conference organized by the Ministry of Health today, Saturday, on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, "The occupation is still preventing the disabled from traveling to complete their treatment abroad."
Abu Salima pointed out that more than 4,000 of the war casualties lost their limbs during the war of extermination on the Gaza Strip, in addition to about 2,000 others who became bedridden due to their severe injuries to the nerves and spinal cord.
He called for an immediate cessation of aggression and the opening of crossings to complete treatment for patients, the wounded and the disabled.
Abu Salmiya noted that about 14,000 injured and sick people are waiting on the list for medical transfers abroad, noting that since the closure of the Rafah crossing, the occupation has only allowed 300 patients to travel.
He also called for the introduction of medical supplies for the disabled, noting that they now lack the most basic supplies such as wheelchairs and crutches.
